While the PSP Brite may be launching rather stealthily in America, Japan is taking a different approach. Sony has two ads for the newly redesigned system, one for the black system and one for the white. The system isn't changed too much, but at least Sony Japan's customers will know that this system exists -- something we doubt Sony America will let happen here at all.
See the other ad, after the break.

I actually like the black one... just needs to be umm.. longer, with, you know, like, pictures of games or something.
What's up with Sony and not wanting to pay for advertising in the US?

SCE doesn't advertise in the west. They consider it a common and vulgar. Apparently they think they can defeat MS and Ninty by word of mouth.
/sarcasm
In the UK, I see more Wii/DS ads in a week than I have EVER seen for the PS3/PSP. And now MS are running every day. Good luck with that Holiday period, Sony.

Those advertisements don't include the new updated screen features. You know.....scan lines and interlacing problems according to the Playstation forums. Hope they fix it soon or I'll be canceling my pre-order of the Black 4GB bundle.

Ehh, i really don't care that they aren't advertising here for the Brite. I mean, the only psp ad that i remember since the original launched was the one for the blue madden (and the one with the guy on the plane w/ battlefront and stuff). i think the ps3 needs some more love in the advertising department on TV. resistance 2, fallout 3, LBP (which i think has ads) are all great games, get those out there

The only LBP ads I've seen so far ended up being GameStop ads. I would napalm the shit out of ad space with all the games coming out this fall, but eh, what do I know?

you know more than the advertisers on TV know. i don't want to see another god darnit campaign ad about barack obama, john mccain, or some stupid issue that people want to be put in place (anyone who lives in ohio, issue 6 is driving me crazy)

I love how these adverts don't warrant or show any particular reason to get this PSP over the other ones at all. I mean, sure, the PSPs featured look very nice, but apart from showing of how they look, it would've been better had they actually shed some light on what it could do that others can't, rather than imply/hint that it has a better screen. Then again, when you're advertising a new model with not many significant updates made to it, apart from a better screen and a built-in microphone, I suppose there isn't much to talk about. What was stopping them from making those changes to the PSP Slim? Now, a shitload of people are thinking that they wasted their money getting that, and are probably wishing they had waited just one year more. Ah well.

15 second ads.
Perhaps they don't advertise a lot outside Japan because the market is not huge (and the game offerings not extensive enough) to warrant lots of expenditure. I would have to echo DS / Wii ads being quite popular (in the very little TV I watch).
In any case, I don't think it matters much how much Sony spends to anyone visiting this site. I think games sell the system the most, and most visiting this site see the benefits of the system or game(s) in one way or another.
