In addition to the newly announced PSP Plus, Sony unveiled yet another way for your PSP and PS3 to interact with each other. All you have to do is connect a PSP running Resistance: Retribution with a PS3 running Resistance 2. Under R2's option screen, select "Infect your PSP!" and your PSP will enter "Infection mode."
This "Infection mode" will cause your character in Retribution, former British Marine James Grayson, to become infected with an alternate mutated form of the Chimera virus Nathan Hale is infected with. You gain a new uniform, R2 weaponry, additional abilities, access to new Chimera areas, and more. Even the story will be slightly altered -- characters in the story will be aware of your Chimerian infection which will alter their behavior accordingly. For more details, Andrew has written a hands-on over at Joystiq that you can access right here.

cool but what about those peoples who dont have a ps3? get one? i dont think so. Thats kind of pointless in a way. Only the hardcore fans are going to get both consoles and both games.

Seriously. It's a good bonus, but to miss out on that content with no way to unlock it on the PSP is kind of balls.
Also, I wonder if the mode becomes toggle-able once you enter infection mode, so that you can go back and play it with the original story.

Well, considering the franchise did start out on the PS3, I think this is more of an incentive for PS3 owners to get the PSP version than PSP owners to buy a PS3.
My guess is that the majority of those who buy R:Retribution already played R:FoM on their PS3 but that's just my assumption.

This "infection" thing reminded me of the game "Infected", too bad there is no PS3 game of it.

people who have a ps3, psp, R2 and RR should upload a save file with infected mode activated so us who don't have a ps3 can enjoy it. That is the only way I can see myself getting that update.

nope, that wont do. ign says these features will only be available for one boot after they are unlocked. so unless you want to keep resistance running on your psp for as long your psp lives, you'll need a ps3 evey time you wanna unlock the stuff.

a terrible plan from sony, but the main R:R campaign should be sufficient enough

There are several key reasons for this but the main point is that it is a way for Sony to increase the value of the "Playstation" brand by firmly tieing the multiple platforms together in meaningful ways... So the moral of the story is PSP owners consider getting a PS3 and PS3 owners see more value in picking up a PSP.

Doesn't anyone have a friend with a PS3? My best friend will be getting his own later this year, so at least I have an option. =)

this is hands down this stupidest way to use the sixaxxis w/ the PSP that anyone could ever conjure up. WTF is the point of this? the only time that you would ever be able to use this is if you're in your home. When you're in your home, wtf would you be playing your psp over your ps3/ps2 (unless there was a blackout). Fucking sony, i love you...but you piss me off sometimes. get your head out of your ass and do this the right way. allow people to 1) take mini usb cable 2) plug usb cable into psp 3) plug other end into controller...game over. Seriously, 3 damn steps is all it takes.

this is sad for two reasons: this makes me want to waste money on a ps3 just to buy that game and get this update, which I will not do. Why not let you unlock it on psp as well. Sony, consider this before releasing the game....2. why is this feature only available when your psp is on and then erases everything after you shut it off. At least keep it as part of a saved file on the ms, not just temporarily activated. Also a comment on the duelshock....why should you have to have a ps3 to use this?!!! just plug the damn thing directly into the psp like others have suggested. This is all a ploy to entice psp owners into wasting money on ps3 and then more on R2 and duelshock.
