How the PSP sizes up to the DSi, iPhone
Learning the art of "never sleeping," Joystiq has gone ahead and created a comparison chart of the new Nintendo DSi, comparing it to the PSP-3000 and Apple's iPod Touch and iPhone (by tech specs, not games library). Check it out.

The DSi is quite sexy, but it is sort of taking some cues off of the PSP.
Actually the funniest thing about this is that I don't think the DSi is meant to be competing against the PSP. I think the DSi is meant to be a competitor to the iPod Touch because of the App Store's casual appeal. Either way this is certainly going to make things a LOT more interesting in the handheld wars.

I agree -- kind of in the other direction, but the same idea. The iPhone is more of a competitor to the DS(i) with the casual touch-controlled market. The PSP is a roaming console.
I have an iPhone and a PSP, and though I think the iPhone is great at a lot of things, I don't think Steve Jobs has played a PSP or he might've been a little more hesitant to call the iPod touch the "best portable device for playing games." Unless you're only into racing games, then it's a little closer! ;)

Really? Why do you think that? I personally don't see anything monumental here.

Why is there even a DS related story here? Does this really interest you guys? I'd expect it to be on the DSFanboy, but why here?

Who really cares? Can you play God of War, FFVII, Syphon Filter, Burnout, Socom, Grand Theft Auto on the DSi or iPhone? NO!! So who gives a sh*t about it...
The PSP is the only handheld where gamers can get a console equivalent fix on the go...

Well the DS does have Burnout. Its horrible tho. The PSP Burnout looks like a PS2 game, The DS Burnout looks like well I was gonna say PS1 game but its not even that good.

The DS gets all these things but does that imrove the quality or graphics of its games? That is really what it was made for...games.

yea the chart was a waste. If there was more detail in it maybe it would have been a better read. but they just mention it has wifi and a browser and how big it is. the semi-important stuff. they gotta say well ds has new releases the psp 3000 has a better screen and built-in mic. or type of games you can expect.

I have the original DS and do not like it for the following reasons: ergonomics, resolution, and games. This new variant doesn't look like it addresses those things.

Well the handheld war is decide... the DS won, but that doesnt mean that the PSP cant be a full-blown success on its own ;)
TBH, I agree with the guys above, this is not a threat for the PSP, because its still way to casual...

The new DS still doesn't bring it to PSP levels of media and fun imo. But each to his/her own I guess.

There's my reason to pick a DS. That camera is cool! Just look it up on gametrailers.com and see all the cool stuff you can do with it! The psp is still the king of online and graphics though.

The whole "casual gaming" thing has gone too far when three completely different things can be said to be competing for the same audience.
I'm not saying one is better than another, I am saying it's like suggesting that Ferrari and Ford are trying to attract the same consumers. It's just insane.

i'm surprised the chart doesn't list *weight*, just dimensions.
for portable gaming, weight is an important consideration. i carry too much stuff around in my backpack as it is.

making the dsi smaller might have been a mistake because it would be too small for people with big hands.
