Level-5, developers of Jeanne d'arc on PSP, have just announced a new horror-themed RPG called Ushiro. Players will take on the role of a death god (shinigami) to help people fulfill their wishes, and fight monsters along the way. It's scheduled for a release next year. Check out a scan at Gamekyo.
[Thanks, Jon C.!]

Shinigami helping fulfill wishes, and fighting monsters?
Any chance of them changing the name from Ushiro, to "Full Moon wo BLEACH"?

This is amazing news! I hope this gets localized. Level-5 are such great developers. I'm importing this if it doesn't come out here.

Well they are just screens, maybe you should wait until they release some videos before you begin to judge it prematurely.
On the otherhand I hope both this and Cardboard Senki get published here, the PSP is in need of some games and hopefully these two will be just as good as Jeanne D'Arc was.

More than actually "horror" it looks to me like a dark-themed RPG like say, Persona... which is great. So if the game is actually "horrorific" or not, it's a win-win situation with Level 5 at the helm IMO. Let's just hope it gets an english version; if it's worth it of course.

Your character is the God of Death, eh? Subtle choice. What's next for the PSP, Kratos vs. Thanatos?
BTW: I'd love to play Thanatos in a dating SIM:
"You are hereby consigned to the realm of eternal sleep."
"But -- but -- I'm in high school! It's not my time! Why me, why me?!"
"Because you're wearing a fuschia sweater and I *don't like fuschia*. I'd suggest you warn your friends about that color, but where you're going, you won't have any! It'll be just like high school, only you'll unconscious! Strike that -- it'll be just like high school!" (snaps fingers, tips derby)

Not to get involved in a touching snipe orgy, but I do have to correct the last comment:
1. The post you're commenting on is not sarcastic, it's facetious. In places, it's ironic.
2. Literacy fail + originality fail = Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, we have no use for your posted fragment at this time. Feel free to post again when you can (a) glean meaning from others' words, (b) put more than two together yourself and (c) avoid resorting to tedious internet cliches.

(And, yes, I'm aware you spell the word, *fuchsia*. Please don't take me, Thanatos!)

Wouldn't it be great if most of the interesting new games posted to PSP Fanboy were coming to the USA, instead of them almost entirely being Japan only?
PSP is dead in the USA. It's too bad... But domestic development has all but ceased and Sony refuses to assist localization of JP titles to keep the system going. I suspect it will continue in Japan as a viable platform but on these shores, it's officially orphaned. A real shame... Thanks a bunch, Sony. Way to kill your best selling system.
