There isn't anything "new" to be found in this video walkthrough of the upcoming PSP-exclusive Resistance Retribution, but it is nice to see the game in action once again. Bend Studio's Chris Reese offers commentary as he goes through this beautiful demo, the one shown at both E3 and PAX earlier this year.

Why the "Sturmgewehr"? (That's german for Assault Rifle)

I would guess because the West really didn't have an assault rifle until after this game is set. The Russians came up with the AK-47 right after the war ('47 comes from the year it came out), but the US didn't have an assault rifle until the 60s. Other western countries did, but nowhere as famous as the german one.

I played the demo of this at PAX a few times. At one time I was watching over my friend's shoulder as he played, and explaining things to him, and pointing out specific gameplay elements and design choices I found interesting. While I was doing this, the guy from this video asks me, "Hey, you wanna run the booth for me, I need to step out and smoke some weed."
It was pretty funny.
I didn't realize how excited I sounded about the game until he said that.
Played Resistance 2 there as well... didn't really enjoy that nearly as much as Retribution though, it was weird.

I dont get it, you tried the demo right? was there a need of a second analog stick?

Yeah, I played it twice through. To be honest, thought they did such a good job that there's no need for a second analog.
The game uses an autoaim feature, where anything within a big square in front of you can be auto-locked. You still look around with the triangle, circle, X, and square, but you don't have to do it quite as much because of the autolock. In addition, if you have multiple enemies within this square (you can see the square in the video above, it just shows the four corners of the box), you switch between them by pressing triangle, circle, x, and square. It snaps to the next enemy in that direction.
I thought the autoaim would really feel like training wheels, but it didn't at all. The Syphon Filter games use the same buttons to look around, and I really had a hard time with it. I didn't like it at all, and felt like the game got really frustrating when they threw multiple targets at you on the screen at once. In Resistance: Retribution, they've completely gotten around that, and made the game much more approachable. They can throw lots of guys at you, and there's no frustration of trying to fight with the controls to find the enemy you want to take down first.
It felt really, really good. I think they managed to overcome the limitation of no second analog stick.

I'm really looking forward to play this game. This is the type of games the PSP needs; original titles in established universes rather than ps2 ports.

Why no "download to PSP" link?
