All right, we've got two new games from two different companies. First up is Koei's
Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin (
Warriors Orochi 2)
which is probably one of those "new" titles Koei has been
talking about recently. It's a port of the PS2 game which will be out later this month in North America. The PSP port is scheduled for Japan this November with new characters and ad hoc multiplayer.
The second title is Capcom's
Sengoku Basara: Battle Heroes. The series has
never left done poorly outside Asia, so we're not banking on this one getting localized.
Battle Heroes has 2-on-2 battles and 4-player ad hoc.
Battle Heroes is scheduled for Spring 2009 in Japan.
Are you sensing a pattern in Japanese PSP development? Notice how all games now seem to be touting the multiplayer co-op ad hoc? Thanks to
Monster Hunter, developers have finally found a cash cow in the PSP.

"Capcom's Sengoku Basara: Battle Heroes. The series has never left Asia" - Incorrect. Was localized and renamed to Devil Kings on PS2.

That was a weird decision from Capcom. Turning the historical japanese characters from Basara into some generic, boring fantasy characters in Devil Kings. If it weren't for that, it'd probably be a better version of Samurai Warriors.

Makes sense since I know alot of DS games have ad hoc MP. maybe we found the fuel that powers the juggernaut called the DS.

Please switch to infrastructure multiplayer. As hoc is nigh useless

But not in Japan, where gamers are more social. They meet in person to play. And they actually buy PSP games in Japan, too.
Plus, supposedly in the future, you'll be able to play ad-hoc games over the internet via a PS3

Indeed. I for one, have no use for infrastructure. I have real-life friends with PSPs :P

Yeah whatever. Of topic. The new ipod touch 8 gig costs pretty much the same as a psp with an 8 gig stick.I never bought into the whole iphone, touch competing with handhelds but hell the touch is pretty damn impressive and the games and features are amazing. Hard to justify buying a psp now.Hell people who have signed away their life for the iphone will have absolutely no use for a portable gaming device.
This coming from a guy who doesn't even like apple.

And what amazing games are those? I have an iPhone myself and its great, but for gaming...no. The controllers take up half the touch screen and are really unresponsive at best.

True. You can YouTube, rip vids to iTunes and copy them to your Touch, avail yourself of the now scores of apps including dozens (soon hundreds?) of games.
Of course, none of the Apple iTunes games for touch or phone come anywhere near the potential of your average PSP title (realized or not). And therein lies the true tragedy behind Sony's utter abandonment of the PSP software market in the USA...
