Wondering what's taking Monster Hunter so long to make its way from Japan to other countries? The multi-million selling Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G perhaps won't sell as many copies elsewhere, but it'd be easy money for Capcom to take advantage of. Well, the announcement of a new Infrastructure mode for the game (enabled via PS3) has us thinking the game is finally getting prepared for a wide release around the world.
A survey was released on the Capcom-Unity site, one which specifically mentions the Link functionality. Link would allow players "to play with other players across the world via a PS3 connected to the internet." Sounds just like the newly announced feature, no?
And the title of the game featured in the survey? Monster Hunter Unite. While Capcom reps refuse to comment on Monster Hunter Unite at the time, we think our guess that it's a localized version of 2G is a solid one -- guess we'll have to wait to find out more.
[Thanks, Yuri!]

Indeed. Just gotta check the gamefaqs boards. Hundreds of pirates already have played the game... so dunno if it'd actually sell anything =S

The translation isn't 100%. It doesn't even matter because Monster Hunter Fans (like me) will buy this game nontheless.

Well I am all for Monster Hunter coming out in NA. I just hope this time Capcom will market the game because I think not having marketing for that game made the game not sell that well in NA. But in Japan every one knows about it and so it sell great over there now Capcom just needs to Market it over here and MH will sell well over here too.

Well put, Joe. Marketing is the make or break of the PSP. No marketing has shown no sales. If they don't work on making a title a "must have" by hyping it up, then it will only fall to be pirated.

This sounds like good news, well everything except the part where you must have a PS3 to be able to play a PSP game online... Why? I don't own a PS3 and never intend to - wouldn't use it enough, waste of a lot of money - so this just annoys me. Surely this game could just be developed for online play in the normal manner?

I'm sure that the reasoning behind using the PS3 as a go-between is for piracy concerns and cheating. Almost every infrastructure game that the PSP has is consumed by cheaters with hacked games. Have you tried playing those games? It's worthless.
So yeah, thanks hackers. You ruin everything.

it is a standalone game that is treated like an expansion. you don't need the original.

Well a localized version is more then possible to come... both previous versions did a solid half million outside of Japan, so yeah pretty damn easy money ;)

No, MHF2G is a diffrent game from MHF2...well, a little.
It has more creatures and such and it's *way* harder.
So if you suck at MHF2 then forget about pwning in this one. ;)
(No MHF2 is needed to play 2nd G)

Using a PS3 to play online? Why don't they just ask the kind folks of socom how to put mh online and then make a PS3 Monster Hunter. Whatever plans they have we'll just have to see them on TGS. Something very spectacular would be that they announced a Monster Hunter for PS3 and that in the same matter as Monster Hunter 2 JP(PS2) and Monster Hunter Portable JP they would link up to exchange goodies only available through the link. I think of everything not to give up hope that we don't have MH for PS3 or Monster Hunter Frontier.

Check Wikipedia, there is a MH3 in the works
Yet, because its "so expensive and hard to develop games for it" they quit the PS3 version and are making it for the Wii, guess Capcom could stand it with DMC4 when it became multi-console, yet an amazingly popular game in an area dominated by ps3s is just a waste of money, or Yen, heh
Oh well, if it comes out for the Wii, say hi to the plague of crappy Bow/Gunners, and the death of all melee weaponry

I really want this game! I only ever played it by myself though... so some ps3 connectivity would be welcomed!
