When it was a cell phone game, no one knew what it was about. Then it became a PSP game, and still no one knew any details about it. Finally, the project director of The 3rd Birthday, Hajime Tabata, has revealed some facts about the third game in the Parasite Eve franchise. Square is cooperating with another development studio on the game, but he refuses to divulge which studio.
Unlike its predecessors, The 3rd Birthday will be a "true third person shooter," but Tabata notes that it will not the same as Dirge (thank you!) of Cerberus: FFVII. Some sort of wireless gameplay may be implemented, but it was not specified whether it will be infrastructure or ad-hoc.
The game's scenario and design are currently almost complete. Our curvy heroine Aya Brea will utilize an ability called overdrive that allows her to "cross time." This power lets her to fight and eliminate the Twisted, who are the new antagonists of the game. No release date is set, but it sounds like we'll see the game over in Japan some time next year.

Can't wait to actually see the sexy Aya in action again... even if the game drifts away from it's original RPG gameplay. Give us some screenies, SE please! O_o

I just read about this elsewhere on the internets.
I'm actually more suprised to read that the director of the game is focusing less on online play because he's also doing FF Agito XIII, which will focus a lot on the online aspect. I had thought Agito was going to be a single player RPG. Frowny face, damn it! FROWNY FACE!!

By using the action buttons (square, x, etc) to look around and directionals to select weapon, etc.

Those FPS controls on PSP suck. Well ... not actually "suck", but I don't like 'em. I'd have shooting controls ALA Chili Con Carnage over those anyday, anytime. Since it's gonna be basically a 1 player game, a lock-on feature does not bother me at all. I'm all for lock-on + crazy evasive maneuvers.

For some reason, the antagonists of this game ("the Twisted") sound a lot like Noise from TWEWY, since you have to use an ability to search between planes. Nevertheless, the PSP needs some better games, so I'm not complaining.

They also sound like "The Heartless", which does little to cleanse my palette of the taste of needlessly mind-screwy premises behind every single RPG that's ever come into contact with character designer/ would-be street-fashionista Tetsuya "Spiky-Haired-Emo-Protagonists-FOR-EVAR" Nomura. /end rant
Having said that, I'm all down for another Aya Brea game, even if all the devs did was reuse the graphics from the first one to make an all-new adventure, and the fact that it's coming to PSP is even sweeter.

I wonder if it could be Level 5. Because SE and them have been working together for some time on different games. So may be it is L5. PE should be great on the PSP.
On a side note I really do not like the new way to comment. I could always save my name on this site and I would just need to put in my password. Now it takes me longer to type my comments and it would not be that much of a pain if I only posted every now and then. But I post on this site a lot so it sucks.

Level 5 doesn't make shooters, they make rpg's :( I really hope its a misquote, and Level 5 is handling it though.
