And Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G becomes the top-selling game on the charts, yet again, beating out Mario Kart Wii. We're happy for the PSP and all, but boy -- there sure is very little drama on these Japanese charts.
PSP - 70,536
Wii - 41,572
Nintendo DS - 34,905
PlayStation 3 - 7,701
PlayStation 2 - 7,022
Xbox 360 - 1,474
Could have something to do with not quite having the software success to match the great hardware sales. I bet if we start seeing more then 1-2 psp games in the top 30, they'll start talking about it. Maybe then we'll even see the software list as part of the pspfanboy post :)
I'm just hoping this means eventually more games for us over here in the US.
It never seizes to amuse me how the 360 continues to get owned by the ps2.
Like honestly, what's going on in Japan? I know they are getting more psp games than the rest of us, but is that the main reason of high sales, or is Monster Hunter that popular.
Is it just me, or does pspfanboy like using Albert Einstein pics. Maybe this pic has been used more than once? Next time you guys can't find/make a pic that relates to a post, then just use a pic of Jessic Alba in some revealing attire.
I like the related headlines that show the same headline having to be reworded each week. The Japanese must know that the PSP is like cheese you can listen to outside.
Very cool. I hope it translates into some love for the US game market. :-)
I don't get the relevance of comparing it to the big consoles (360/PS3/Wii) or their game sales. The PSP and its games are significantly cheaper---the only comparison that really matters is to the DS. That's the one I'm most surprised about (since it's cheaper still than the PSP, and appeals to casual crowd).
Well Capcom has learnt now that big sales come of MH :) So now the question is, despite the Wii version, will they consider a 360 and PS3 version in future, or maybe a MH3 for PSP with online integration so we can battle together ^^
Unfortunately though, if you look at the software chart, very little on the PSP sells except Monster Hunter
Out of the top 50, there are 4 PSP titles. #1 (Monster Hunter), #4 (Bleach), then it jumps all the way to #48 with that weird Sony game, then #50 for Carpenter story (which just came out)
At least the Japaense are buying Monster Hunter, I guess. But I don't see how this will translate into more games.
People don't stay at home or even have big homes in Japan. There's a lot of people and very little space, so they always go out and hang about in the city with friends and on cell phones. PSPs are just another little gadget that lets them stay connected with their peers and gives them something to do while mulling around.
The numbers are continually high, because you can't be the only one in the group not Ad-Hoc-ing in a multi-game hunting monsters!
am i the only one that thinks, some of this new found popularity of the PSP is due to the fact the Skype on PSP has finnaly hit Japan! correct me if i'm wrong doesn't Japan have almost cost to cost wi-fi? ( i haven't lived there in years...96-97)
yep, its hard to find wifi, even in tokyo, yet, its all about everyone of all ages, kids and businessmen playing the psp here in japan.
and of course mhf
Monster Hunter seriously scares me with what it has done. Capcom has to be pleased with itself on this one. It's like they extracted the pure desires of the young Japanese citizen and tempered it into a video game.

At first, I was really happy for the PSP; it's great to see continued success in Japan. Now I'm just feeling bad for the other consoles.

I remember when joystiq would make many large redundant posts when the DS was #1. Notice how they don't do the same thing for the PSP.

It`s Monster Hunter. Seriously - everyone is playing it, and if they don`t already have one, they`re buying PSPs to play it.

Those of us who live in Japan know that it has nothing to do with Skype and everything to do with MHP2G.
