Valhalla Knights 2 is striking PSP later this year. RPG fans may be glad to get a brand new game to play on the handheld, but we can't help but feel underwhelmed by the presentation. After games like Crisis Core have spoiled us with its lush visuals and plentiful voice acting, we have to say that this looks a bit ... primitive. The N64-era textures certainly don't help either.

God of War, Wipeout Pulse, Crisis Core, Syphon Filter...all these make it hard to bear graphics which don't live up to these bar setting games.
Were too spoiled!

Yeah but this game has tons of armor choices and character customization while other games may look better your stuck with the same character that looks pretty much the same the whole way through. I enjoyed the last one because of this but the story was waaaay lame. Here's to hoping the story is better in this one.

Amen to that.
The game looks just like the first one, so no shockers there. We cannot expect Crisis Core presentation for each and every game! Still, the story has me worried. If there's no story there like with the first Valhalla, the game's gonna bomb... again.
(Why haven't they localized Rezel Cross or Kingdom of Paradise 2 yet?)

Yeah, all companies have the resources of Square-Enix, who spent several years making Crisis Core.
This is part of the trouble with PSP games being reviewed. Unless they have graphics on par with PS2 games (and not budget ones), they get called ugly. THat's hardly fair, because most PSP games have much smaller budgets (not to mention the PSP hardware is a little weaker)
Also, the original Valhalla Knights basically had zero loading times (only time there was loading was when you changed equipment). Part of that was using lower resolution textures. People complain about loading, but you can't really have it both ways. To reduce loading, they have to streamline the stuff that gets loaded (like textures)

God of War had almost no loading as well. The textures were made to look more colorful through creative use of lighting, I read in an interview (probably linked from here :P ). And that game was gorgeous.
I think a few extra bucks spent on a decent art director would help tremendously. But I'll be getting this anyway.

I have the first one and I have to say I really liked the battle system. Unfortunately thats about all I liked.
They need to add not only a story, but a good one. They need to completely remove the "Start from the beginning everytime you leave the dungeon" stuff.. cause that was total failure.
They also need to upgrade the visuals. The visuals were fine in the first one for its time, but making new games out of old graphics is so NES.. I think we can do better.

Well I know that not every game can have CC graphics , but this cinematic looked terrible ... still I agree that the first one was decent :)
