Capcom, leave these people alone! We're pretty certain that Japan's economy must be coming to a screeching halt, as millions of Japanese are turned into mindless zombies who crave not flesh ... but more Monster Hunter Portable. The streets must be empty as everyone stays glued to their PSPs, hunting as many monsters as possible.
To make matters worse, Capcom is releasing even more DLC for the game, adding a new quest to ensure that the hypnotized denizens of Japan won't dare think about anything but the game. Who knows how many will skip work to hunt down the new Tigarex?

If Capcom really wants to know why Monster Hunter is not popular in the US, they need only to look in the mirror for the answer.
No online play. No Advertising. No aftermarket support. (DLC, contests, promotions), Tutorial, if you can all it that sucks. Its bare bones and a large hurdle for most people.
Get those things fixexd and this would be pretty damn big. To be honest, I'm not sure they care enough.

But it has tons of DLC and tons of tutorial quests. I'll agree on the lack of advertising though.

Yeah the DLC is there, but what I meant was infrastructure mode. Lets face it, the majority of PSP owners in the US don't group to do ad-hoc. Having Ad-hoc only in the US for a primarily online game is setting yourself up for fail.
Even though the tutorial mission are there, the difficulty and unintuitive nature of the early game really dissuades people. Its just too hardcore from the get go to get into. For it to succeed over here it needs to hold the average players hand a bit more than it does now.

I'd say MH's biggest flaw is its lack of an online lobby to set up co-op games. Oh and yeah, its pretty damn complex so I suggest taking all the tutorial missions. Its a shame the game doesn't really enforce it harder on players.
