The legions of Phantasy Star fans are going to rejoice at this trailer of Phantasy Star Portable. It's been eons since we last saw anything of significance regarding this PSP RPG. With the Japanese release coming up, it appears that Sega's finally waking up and giving us the content we want to see.

Uh... there were like 4 tiny screenshots of gameplay in the background. Really would like to see more gameplay and less animated footage that probably doesn't even exist in the game.
Also, like Trystero said, is this coming to the US? Does me no good if it's just in Japanese. Come on, Sony, hire a few freakin' translators and help get all these Japanese games into US hands. We really want to give you our money. Please let us give you our money....

I have little faith in Sega to produce even a mediocre game =(
perhaps this is the title to bring them back to greatness

99% of that was either cut scenes or CG made specifically for this trailer. Do the Japanese really enjoy this type of trailer? I noticed that every SquareEnix trailer/commercial made for the US looks exactly like this.
Gameplay footage is the only thing that matters but it is always missing from nearly every trailer/commercial. I don't get it.

I wonder if this game will have the same depth as the older ones...

I would have preferred a PSO remake for the PSP (or even the PS3.
This needs to come out here, I'm fairly sure it will as SEGA has released the console versions here already. They need to hurry up on that though :D

This looks depressingly like Phantasy Star Universe. It's probably a continuation of that story with a single player mode only.

I doubt it. I bet it will have a more like monster-hunter style of play and retain the single player story from the console versions of PSU. I'd rather them make a coop story mode instead, something along the lines of Shining Soul II.

Yes, it's a continuation/extension of Phantasy Star Universe (for better or worse). Some of the shots in that video look like they've been lifted straight out of PSU, and the theme song is the same.
Personally, I'm looking forward to it.

If the pacing of this Phantasy Star game has been picked up and the content is as substantial as universe and episodes 1 & 2, WITH online over Ad Hoc, then it will be a must buy.
Infrastructure only is a no go for hojoe.

I bought PSU on the PC on the day of release and played for quite a bit, but it just wasn't what I wanted it to be. And this game is probably going to be PSU portable. Just didn't like it quite as much as PSO.

It's going to be based on Phantasy Star Universe Ambition of the Illuminus.
I play this game on xbox 360 online (to bad PSP versiosn will only feature Ad-hoc when the PS2, PC and xbox 360 version is MMO)
Capped out all classes on 360 :D
