PSP voted most wanted system for remakes
This information, while not a really tangible representation of Japanese gaming habits, does paint a rather interesting and perplexing landscape of how things are over there. The PSP is selling hotly, and people are craving for the remakes. There's no doubt PSPs are flying off the shelves due to Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, but is this tie-in with remakes also moving units? Some of the big PSP games are remakes; take Final Fantasy Tactics for example. Perhaps remakes are expected to show up on the system since it's so synonymous with them, or maybe we're just hearing a cry for more games after Monster Hunter's fun expires.
Whatever the reason, hopefully this rekindled interest in the PSP will re-energize developers to make more games (remakes and new IP) for the platform. We seriously need them!

I think it is just that a lot of people want their favorite games remade and the psp is the best to do it, as the system is powerful enough to have a nice update without losing what made the game great in the first place, which could happen if it was ported to a home console.

100% agree, this is exactly it, If they re-made my all time favorite game for ps3, They would more than likely add or deviate from the original materia system, and many other things, something like what they did with Crisis Core:FFVII, and that would destroy the perfection that was FFVII. I mean it was a perfect deviation in CC:FFVII, but FFVII is FFVII, and if remade on psp, there seems there would be less technological advantage to deviate from original form too greatly.

Considering how gorgeous Crisis Core is, I'd love to see some other FF's on there. While 6 is my favorite, I wouldn't mind seeing a 7 remake either since it's the easier and more popular one.

I think they'd be saving that for the PS3.

Well, I don't think they're remaking it at all. But with so many art assets and such created for Crisis Core, I figure it might be easier to convince the suits for a PSP release since it'd require less resource cost.
Still... either way, I don't think it's coming. Just hoping for more RPG goodness on my PSP, especially since my PS3 isn't getting any.

Idunno about 7 being easier to remake, seeing as the original took a team of over 200 people working a new definition of overtime... for 5+ years.

I don't want a FF7 remake ont he PSP I want that on the PS3. FF6 would be a great PSP one. I also want more good original games like Dead Head Fred, Patapon and Crisis Core.

I doubt they'll make an FF7 remake on psp. It would be awesome, but it would be better on ps3. Besides, you can already play FF7 on psp.
Unfortunately, so far there aren't any great looking games to look forward to this year. So while a few good remakes would be nice, I want some great original games. In the past two(?) years we have seen great games released, but this year is looking bad, and this is right after GoW and Crisis Core have been released. Ironic?
"i want Shadow of the Colossus on PSP2!?"
Fixed. ;)
Now, if only I had some god like powers to make Squenix release Dissida this year.

Thing is... I think FF7 is one of the most disgustingly ugly games to ever be created. Including the differing art styles in every cutscene... they seriously needed a better art director to keep some sort of consistency there.
So, playing the original again is definitely not high on my list of things to do. 2D RPGs are much easier to play then those ugly early 3D games.

I actually really like the art style in the game. It was an early 3d game, so the graphics weren't amazing. I think it looked good for it's time. I loved the pre-rendered backgrounds, and I even liked the crazy deformed character models.
"2D RPGs are much easier to play then those ugly early 3D games."
Not for me.

My interest in the PSP has been renewed so much I went out and actually bought a new slim model.
I had owned a launch PSP but got rid of it because of the lack of games. But now that there seems to be allot of games on that system, and it's a pretty sweet handheld to boot, I could not resist picking one up.
I already own about 10 games on this system. And I didn't pay more than $15 each for the games. There are SO MANY great cheap games out there.

Xoonaka you're a newbie gamer. If you dont appreciate FFVII you either 1) haven't played it at ALL, 2) didn't play it in 1997
The graphics are still great, sure they're aging the the rest of the graphics wont. (the pre rendered backgrounds).
FFVII sold 2 million in 2 days in Japan in 1997. So if they remake it, i doubt you're opinion will ever be valid.
It's absolute rubbish and you dont deserve to play games

". . .haven't played it in 1997."
And that right there, sir, is a poignant portion of what you've just said. 1997 - such a wonderful figure - a date - whatever. What some of these deluded jocks are missing: Remaking this 1997 piece, which was visually good for its time, and technically--in terms of story, plot, game mechanics--a masterpiece, will never -ever- be a worthwhile concept when remade for PS3.
Sad are these fans who are so devoid of inspiration and desire for progress that they want to basically remask an older concept with PS3 glamour-ala-3D.
In FF VII, it wasn't the visuals, but rather, the story and the game mechanics that made the title stand out. Oh, and a very important newsflash, over ten-years have passed since then and an entire pantheon of games have progressed in the RPG genre, building and upgrading upon what was a 1997 masterpiece.
In short: It would be an okay remake, but would only prove that delusions are unhealthy because it will not capture the wow feel of 1997, ever! Just enjoy the retro version, and demand something new; that is your responsibility as consumers. You have to put the inspiration in the developers.
Even further abridged: It was 1997. Get over it, please.

There are some great remakes on the PSP already, and some not-so-great ones. Take Maverick Hunter X for instance. That was a sweet "new but familiar" experience. They should use the same engine for further X series remakes IMO. MegaMan Powered up was fun too, but way too cute for my personal tastes. Still, I'd LOVE more NES MegaMans remade that way. There's Castlevania Dracula X too, which would've been great if they just had updated a little Richter's moveset (I know it keeps the "Classic" feel, but still, felt limited 10 years ago and feels worse today).
Anyway, my whole point is, remakes can be cool if they manage to get the old+new factor right. On the other side, hat I do hate are some direct PS2 or whatever ports that feel horribly washed-down on the PSP.
