The price of the Lexar 4GB Memory Stick continues to plummet. For those cheapstakes out there (that includes us), FRYS.com is offering this 4GB card for $30. Considering you can now download PS1 games, full PSP games and more on the PLAYSTATION Store, it seems like most everyone will want to upgrade. We're quite pleased with the amount of music, videos and demos the 4GB card can hold (although we're keeping an eye out on the
8GB Memory Stick!).
Go to
FRYS.com to take advantage of this great deal.
[Thanks, stephen!]

I already have one (thanks to you posting this deal before) but I'm eventually going to have to take the plunge for a second. I purchased the PSP as an "iPod replacer" and it has done just that -- but between all my game saves, downloadable games and music, my memory card is running low on space.
Funny thing is I wasn't a Sony fan until this generation, thinking that Sony had no good first-party titles; sheesh, I was wrong.

u know, ive been using my PSP with a 4GB ms now for years as an "iPod Replacer" and it works great but i can say that the thing is very awkward in my pocket. also, i have a pretty respectable music collection (iTunes reports 11,036 songs at 42.86GB and 26.1 days) and 4GB is not going to cut for me anymore. im almost certain im buying a Zune80 this summer for those exact reasons. i can put ALL of my music on there and STILL have space for movies and pictures. the PSP will then go back to gaming only. dont get me wrong, the PSP gets the job done (i even have it docked in my car with an FM transmitter) but i think a Zune can do it better.

Talk about 1st party games, I just picked up Patapon yesterday and it's a great game. After downloading the demo from the PSN store a week and a half ago, I got hooked on it.
I currently have the 1GB Memory Stick that came with the PSP and I went out a purchased a 2GB stick about 2 months ago. So far, I've just been relegating all my music and video files to the 1GB and then anything game related is on the 2GB. It's working so far, but the space is dwindling.
Like the fellows on PSP Fanboy, I'll also be waiting for the 8GB Memory Stick to lower in price so that I can pick that one up instead of the 4GB.

I bought a Sony memory stick for $30 on Black Friday and it's been great for my PSP. Not sure how Lexar memory sticks perform but it is definitely nice to see that the prices are driving down.

Sprung for the 8gig. It's over priced, especially compared to SD cards, but I know I'll need the space if I want to put music on there, plus games and demos and game saves (and if I go custom, images of games I own).

Isn't this the same deal that was going on a month or two ago? I picked a few up for me and my friends when that was going on. The stick works great in my PSP! I still havene't tried to use any PRX plugins yet but everything else is silky smooth.

Lexar sticks are pretty bad though, Sandisk are far better and you can find them for only a few bucks more.

Good deal there, but Ill probably get the 8GB instead its just a hair over 2 4GBs. I just cant wait until the 16GB ones get cheaper. Though I have a feeling that by the time the 16GB MS's get to the ~$80 price range, there will be a new PSP model with that much built in.

They don't suck. I bought the 4gb Lexar stick last time around and it works perfect with movies, music, pictures, demos and full games. It replaced my 2 gb sandisk and works just as good. It even has a lifetime warranty, so unless they can explain in technical terms why Lexar is inferior, I would pay no attention.

Why are people saying Lexar aren't any good? When it comes to a memory card it either works or it doesn't right?

The prices are falling fast on these types of flash media; I bet by 2010 an 8GB memory stick pro duo will be cheap enough to use instead of UMD's!

They are saying Lexar cards suck because of their access speed, they are notably slower than Sony & SanDisk Ultra II cards. Transfer on the PSP from the PC is fine, but when playing something like the God of War demo from teh PSP store it specifically mentions that it's speed is not indicative of actual performance due to media differences.
It's the speed that makes the difference. Those with Lexar will experience slow down with heavy effects on screen, those using Sony cards will not, those using SanDisk Ultra II's will not either (just testing on my own cards I can say this is true).
The main reason. Movies too, depending on the bitrate you encode tehm at, may show some occasional skipping on Lexar. I bought 2 2gb Lexar from Fry's quite a while back and have regretted it for anything but music and gamesaves. Even Beats has more slow down during the game and skipping of visuals than it does on my 1GB Sony card that came with the PSP -- I bought a 4gb SanDisk Ultra II after beign educated on some site about how to check the speed differences for my own (use a program called HDTach and you'll see that the reading speed is a few hundred milliseconds slower I know it doesn't sound like much but it definitely makes a difference).
There's a reason the Lexar cards are cheaper than the competition.
