A new PSP isn't likely to come any time soon. However, that hasn't stopped this designer from making his own concept design. We have to admit, this is really quite attractive. When closed, the unit looks very iPhone-esque, with a sexy PlayStation button that would act like the PSP's "Home" button.
When slid open, the unit reveals a D-Pad, two analog nubs, and the face buttons -- all in a super-slim case. We know it isn't real, but we want it! Perhaps, the next generation of PSP will look something like this.

The buttons seem slightly impractical, otherwise, DO WANT!!!

I agree. The button placement seems near unusable. Second stick is good, and I hope it has L&R 1&2.
Otherwise it looks good. The sliding screen seems a bit fragile though.

Not sure how the UMD drive and battery could fit anywhere on that thing, but it looks alright! I would expect the next iteration to have either a glass screen or a clamshell design. The current screen can be scratched a bit too easily.

The next PSP needs to have its own hard drive. Maybe they could even have a NAND drive perfected by then??? That would be expensive, but give it time I guess...

The screen looks awesome, but the buttons look a nightmare. there's not enough real estate around them to be comfortable for constant use.
and i'd much prefer L/R keys to a 2nd analogue stick, unless both is too much to ask

make it thicker for a bigger battery or a harddrive. you need more to grab on to.
anyways great concept, Im really interested what a "truly new" redisigned psp is going to look like. Will it be called psp2?

Pretty slick artwork, no complaints on that... Ergonomically speaking however, I'd say it'd be better used for a SonyEricsson phone or something than a PSP; especially if the L/R buttons are difficult to use or press. In addition, it would definitely need to be packaged with some kind of soft case or holster to protect that nice looking screen. Lastly, touchpad face buttons would probably be a better option than that type, which would save on thickness of the device. All of the above are really nit-picky stuff though... I like this idea's concept thus far.

Hmmmm that's a nice look but the screen would need to be scratch proof, looks like it's set up for touch controls, and the side away controls look cool. But I wonder where the L/R buttons are, also instead of hiding the controls make a keyboard there and put the control on the sides of the screen like they are now.

First glance it looks amazing...
but looking closer, the L/R 1/2 buttons just seem to be in the wrong place...i can't imagine how it would be possible to hit two or three of those buttons whilst trying to use other buttons like the analogue sticks...
Still, slick screen and a home button seem perfect.
perhaps, instead of the whole thing coming down from the screen...imagine that section split in two and those two sections coming down from behind the screen and moving apart from each other to create a upside down V formation...i think whilst looking cool, it would also be far more comfortable and easy to control, plus the L/R 1/2 buttons could be placed in more traditional locations

Any PSP mod without a new D-pad/analog is kind of pointless.

The PS d-pad is the best of any I've used. So much better being buttons like that instead of a teeter-totter like other systems. Also the PSP analog is really nice! I was really surprised when I first used it. Amazingly compact too, while still being very usable.

I wish the analog didn't have such a strong spring, it slips out from under my thumb now and then. The dpad on the slim seems quite alright to me.

looks cool but fails on the L1/R1 buttons, i would prefer L2/R2 over a second nub, but if we are striving for all the ps2/ps3 controller functions then L3/R3 are my tertiary item.

Actually, it has L1L2 R1R2 buttons. They're just superflat on the side of the case. (Zoom in on the pictures to see them better.)

Kinda cool, kinda not.
First, am I the only one who thinks that the screen is TOO big, especially in proportion to the buttons? I think that the regular PSP screen is as big as it should get, maybe it can go as high as 5.2 inches, but it's pretty good here. And me thinks the analog sticks are way too close for comfort. But I like the idea of a touch screen, for navigating the XMB and whatnot, and as a keyboard when you're online, but then using the actual controls during a game... That'd be awesome.

It's a cool design, and it's creative. Unfortunately it looks rather uncomfortable. the L and R buttons seem like they'd be a hassle to press, the entire thing would be top heavy (think of holding it at the base with that big heavy screen slid out, supported by nothing), and i have to mention the fact that a qwerty keypad could easily have been fit in there somewhere. Like a few posters before had already mentioned, what the PSP really needs is a hard drive, a workable amount of RAM, some basic mini apps (calculator, text editor, ect.), more usb peripheral support for things like keyboards, external hard drives, 3rd party webcams, and the ability to run more than one application at a time (ie; internet and music).
