The entire nine-episode series will put you back $2.99, and will last about half an hour. That's about the same as a single comic book. The digital comic will advance automatically (assuming you don't pause, rewind, or fast forward) and display what you need to be looking at, with text bubbles popping up on their own. There are also sound effects and slide transitions. So it's sort of like an advanced comic book. Comic Book Plus. At the end of each episode, you can watch an interview with the creators or check out some biographies and explanations on the history of the idea.
It sounds pretty neat, but of course, comics aren't for everyone. The purist will want the physical product, and the skeptics won't take any chances. It's up to you guys: will digital comics grow in popularity?

I think there might be too much free content in the form of free fully animated flash cartoons or even free static comics to make $3 for 30 minutes worth while.

As a comic person, I think this cool. I'm already a subscriber to marvel digital and I think that sold me. I like the idea of an enhanced comic that don't become an animation. We like panels too. I also like the fact that I can take it with me and I don't have to worry about making sure the spine is mint or whatever.

EPIC FAILURE
Download PSPComic and some DCP scans and read all the comics you want. Or, if you prefer, buy some scans from Eyemelt or Pullboxonline. Either way, it's much better than little cartoons dressed as comics, or Marvel's undownloadable format.

I love the concept, and the price is right, but this particular comic just doesn't seem compelling enough to warrant the download. However, if Sony can convince the big comic companies to get behind the format and actually support it enough to build an audience, this style of animated comic could become a great new media option.

I totally agree. If Sony can get DC or Marvel on board with this idea and keep the content up and the price down I think this could really take off. I was a comic collector for years and the reason I stopped was the lack of quality and the steady increase in price. At $2.99 for a half hour of content I think the price is right and hey who knows, maybe this will lead to gamers bonding with each other and trading their digital comics. Anyone for a round of KoomByYah?

If this comic is like this creators last comic... it will be tasteless, vile, disturbing, the the funniest damn thing you're read in years. Look into the series I Luv Halloween by Tokyopop.

i hope they become popular. this is a fantastic idea. it's sort of a glorified book, where you don't have to do anything, just watch and read. that is very neat, and i hope more things like this come out.
weird, non-traditional games have worked super well on the nintendo DS and wii, and i hope that sony opens their sleep-laden eyes to notice that not everyone wants just a normal, hum-dum video game. there are other ways to be entertained, why not put them on an ultra-versatile platform. the psp is already a powerhouse. skype for the psp-2000 shows that the psp isn't just for playing video games, watching movies, listening to music, and browsing the internet, which is more than the DS can do without particular add-ons. and soon, GPS, a camera, and goodness knows what will explode the possibilities available to this system.
i think this digital comic book is just one step in a new generation of different games that a more diverse group of people want.

Well, I know I'm game to try it. I do have some comic scans on my psp already, and I like them, but I'll always be on the lookout for cheap and different content. Maybe it's my inner comic book nerd coming out, but I'll at least give it a try, and for three bucks, I figure I won't feel too bad if it's rubbish!
