After only two months on the market, the PSP-2000 has sold a million units in Japan as of Nov. 22, Sony announced. What makes it more impressive is it reached the milestone two weeks faster than the original PSP when it launched in December 2004.
"Along with the ever greater sales of the PSP system, more and more software titles are released, with more than 500 software titles available in Japan alone," Sony said in its release. "Looking forward, many more titles in various genres are scheduled to be released this holiday season from third party game developers and publishers, as well as SCE Worldwide Studios Japan Studio titles. The new slim and light PSP offers more convenience in portability and more choice in colors to match users' lifestyle."
Hitting this number so quickly isn't entirely surprising considering that the PSP-2000 sold 500,000 in just two weeks after its launch and has been in the top hardware spot in the weekly hardware sales charts several times, as well. It will be interesting, however, to see how long it takes Sony's newest version of the PSP to hit that mark in the other two regions.

I hope it keeps up, and that the software attach rate continues to improve and what really needs work, now.
The system has sold well enough to prove that, while perhaps not wresting total control of the handheld market from Nintendo, Sony has carved out a pretty large market for the PSP.
Sony desperately needs Crisis Core to release in the USA to stimulate game sales, here -- and more titles like it, Silent Hill and GoW. The upcoming titles list doesn't look like much right now, hopefully that will change. ...What worries me is when companies like Lucasarts snub the PSP by releasing Lego Star Wars for every OTHER active platform on the market including the PS2 and DS.
I've said it before - beancounters run the game industry. If you aren't seeing even a basic port of a game that's already been ON the PSP in a previous version, that's a strong vote of no-confidence, Senator Amidala.

I dunno, I think the upcoming game list still looks a little thin. Nothing else of note coming before Christmas, anyway.
Speaking of which, what happened to the PSP version of Atari's new Godzilla: Unleashed? I now see PS2, Wii and DS versions being touted - but no PSP. If they quietly dropped that, I'm emailing Atari myself - and woe betide those f'ers!

Yes, the PSP version of Godzilla: Unleashed seems to have been shelved/cancelled.
I tipped PSPfanboy to check into it, but they couldn't be bothered.
Really pisses me off that it's cancelled, seems like it could've been a great game for PSP.

Where are these numbers coming from? Sony has never reported "Sold" numbers, have they? I thought they always mentioned the misleading "shipped" numbers.

Here is the official Press Release:
http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/071126e.html
It is 'sell-in' units which means units sold to retailers (shippped) and not 'sell-through' which is sales to consumers.

Anyone else bothered by the PSP's horrible screen? The ghosting is terrible on it. In fact it's the worst screen on any device I have seen. Cell phones, iPods, and even the DS have no ghosting issues whatsoever. I cannot believe this is not a big issue for people. How can PSP users not notice the absolutely laughable response time on the screen? Play Loco Roco is you don't see what I am talking about. Please fix the damn screen Sony so I can go get a PSP.

Are you playing your PSP in the refrigerator or something? Yes, there's some ghosting on the PSP slim, but it's nothing crippling. Slightly worse than that of my DS Lite, at the very most. Making fun of the PSP's screen is ridiculous. The thing is huge, gorgeous, and is one of its primary attractions.

The PSP screen does ghost for certain games and videos. It'd be nice if it had a faster response time but all things considered, it's a minor flaw.

Chains of Olympus , MHF2G , Crisis Core , Dissidia , Kingdom Hearts BBS and GT4 mobile seems as a pretty strong lineup for me pixelator ;)

"Anyone else bothered by the PSP's horrible screen?"
No. It has just as much ghosting as my GBA SP and DS lite.
I NEVER notice it in game.
I'm more bothered by the people who actually complain about it. Especially when they claim DS doesn't have it

yah rriiiggghhttt the PSP has a bad screen, there is NO OTHER HANDHELD that has a better screen. You should prolly stop doing drugs while playing the PSP. Me thinks you are more liken to be yet another in a very long and lame line of DS Trolls.
I am looking for mostly to GOW, the demo was AWSOME!
It's a shame that they could not release it before xmas that would have certainly sold many a system!

" with more than 500 software titles available "
But the DS fanboys say it has no games. 0 =/= 500. Surely they wouldn't lie.
Oh wait...

you forgot two little words there. "...in Japan"
Going strictly by GameRanking score, people can say the PSP lacks great titles. Whether or not this is true, I do not know. I'm currently playing Dungeon Siege which sits at 74.6% and I think it's grand. I do think the PSP needs MORE games though. A complete lack of new games this week and last week, which included the "black friday" Christmas rush was a little upsetting. The next game I'm interested in for PSP doesn't come out for months. It just doesn't seem right. It surely doesn't get the attention it deserves.

This really has nothing to do with the above article, but I just found out I could watch youtube videos on my psp via remote play and the ps3. Access remote play, then using the ps3's web browser from your psp, you can watch youtube videos. Sorry if everyone else possibly knows about this already and I'm just the last to find out, but I just thought it was pretty neat being able to watch Zatch Bell via youtube via the ps3's web browser via my psp. . . . . or however that can be worded. Go PSP! Go Zatch Bell!!

Yeah, it works but not many people actually know about this.
Lol, I remember when someone on the forums pointed this out and I felt kinda stupid for not know about how obvious this was. Great feature, though.

One last thing about the youtube videos, be sure and have that javascript thingy turned on in your PS3 or else the videos won't be displayed at all and you'll be stuck with no Zatch Bell!

Uhh... new comment system. It needs a better background color than white, perhaps post-it note yellow or light blue (the grey background can stay).
The Godizilla game is still coming to the PSP, just not in America. It is set for a November 30th launch in Europe.
