In addition to becoming the PlayStation 3's power button of choice, the PSP has made relations with the PC. At the Tokyo Game Show press conference, Kaz Hirai announced that the PS Store will soon be accessible via the computer.
According to Hirai, you will be able to purchase and download PSP content without using the PS3 as a middle-man. The service is reportedly available now in Japan; no word on when it will be coming elsewhere.

All I can say is: about time! Sony needs to hurry up with that, since I don't feel like spending $500 to buy a PS3 just so I can download things for my PSP.

what blows is that if you don't live in the region you can't access their download store.
i just tried viewing the Japanese store @ http://www.jp.playstation.com/store/ and all is fine and good till you want to view the titles and actually access the store ... then you get a message like the following ... "PLAYSTATION®Store is not available in the selected country or region."
what's nice is that the URL that you receive that message on isn't a Japanese URL so as soon as the North America and European stores open it'll likely just allow you in.

To spike021: I'm guessing it's through the internet and doesn't require a separate program.

@7 actually the site only list Windows XP and Vista as requirements, and list IE 7 and Mozilla for browsers under those OS's,. so maybe it won't be MAC combatible, it's not always safe to assume even something so simple, but i can't see why they wouldnt have it acessible from a MAC browser, but i'm just saying it isn't listed

I hope Sony pulls this thing online for the rest of us soon. Because really, the region lockout seems like an easy issue to get around. And even if they have it locked so credit cards registered outside of Japan aren't accepted, if it's compatible with the Playstation Network Card, you'll just see sites like Jlist selling them.
So c'mon Sony... any day now.
Of course, the news rocks and I can't wait to start VCing my PSP. W00t!

A Mac IS a Personal Computer. Or are they so useless for computing now that they're not even in that category? Just a very expensive artsy paperweight?

Larz, the Macintosh is indeed a computer however it's not limited to personal use and its default operating system is Mac OS rather than Microsoft Windows.

Looking at the requirements, it would appear to include any OS that Macromedia Flash Player can be installed on. However, that could just be for to view the website, while the DRM could be the reason for only MS OSs being listed.

@required I was going to explain how ignorant your post was, but then I thought, why? he's an idiot.

I'll end for you two, I guessing his main beef is your[required's] paradoxical statement: "small demographic sure, but as is well known - a fricken huge consumer base."
I hope my emphasis works.
What I think required meant:
While Mac people are a small in numbers, they are a wealthy consumer base.
Most Apple products tend to be near the higher(money wise) end of the technology spectrum. Hell, just look at the iPhone 500-600 dollars for a phone(really a PDA with phone capabilities), yet it sold out in several stores.
