Their main complaint is how the d-pad is smooth, thus making it susceptible to sticky thumb syndrome. Other complaints involve the UMD slot metal tabs being easily bendable, too many inputs slots (they would rather an iPod-esque single input), and plastic bezel instead of the metal one used on the older PSP.
The fact that these are GamePro's four main gripes about the system is a testament to how well designed the new system is. We've been looking in-depth at our PSP-2000, and again, and once more for good luck, and have not found anything too alarming. If you were lucky enough to find a PSP Slim Daxter bundle, feel free to share your pet peeves with the rest of the class.

My pet peeve is that they're being stingy with the colors. So, I'm not buying one.

No dead pixels for me, My biggest gripe is the operating system. My first PSP and I think they really need to work on the photo/mp3/video settings.

One proprietary connection (headset/tv out) is ENOUGH thanks. I appreciate tech that uses usb so I can have one cable do multiple gadgets.

I just picked up a PSP 2000 model today... well, yesterday now. I can only say that I couldn't be happier with it. I came home and charged it immediately, turned it on, did the quick initial setup and was right into playing. Daxter is suprisingly good for something I initially thought I'd trade in right away. The whole packed is a steal in my opinion. The PSP is incredibly shiny... oohhhh... the shiny... and being able to play Valkyrie Profile made the rpg gamer in me glow with satisfaction. This is a game you have to pay outrageous coinage for to acquire on the PS1. But on the PSP it's a meager $30. Not to mention Dracula X Chronicles coming soon, (another meager $30). Seriously, just try and purchase that game for the SNES, it's not even the whole original game and it's like $100, doesn't even have revamped graphics and Symphony. Being able to get two amazing classics for a fraction of the price you'd have to pay for them on Jewbay is pure gaming bliss. Oh, and the loading times are albeit impressive for games that took a long time to load on the original... Valkyrie Profile. I have no gripes about the system whatsoever. Granted I've never owned the original PSP, but I was going to purches one after spending some playing time with it until I heard rumors of a redesign. I couldn't be happier I waited. It's the most satisfying handheld purchase I've ever made... yes, even more than my DS.
I'll leave you all with a couple last things... FFT: War of the Lions, Dracula X Chronicles, God Of War, and FINAL FANTASY VII: CRISIS CORE. I don't even see the need for firmware, it'd just ruin the warranty I purchased. No need with games like that in the lineup. Add that to the small but very strong list of current top-notch titles: Jeanne D' Arc, MGS Portable Ops, Valkyrie Profile, Syphon Filter DM, GTA Liberty City Stories, etc... is there any reason NOT to get one? I just can't wait to get the bigger battery and flushed out battery cover... hopefully in the nice Shiny Silver... Shiny Shiny... ;)

'Jewbay'? WTF?? Way to destroy what was otherwise a decent post, with a pointless (and bizarre) anti-semitic remark.
back to the topic:
"Their main complaint is [snipped] plastic bezel instead of the metal one used on the older PSP."
Does that mean that the strap/lanyard loop is plastic instead of metal? That would be... bad.....

Exactly which part of the older PSP's bezel do you believe is made out of metal, because I have two launch PSPs, plus my brother has one from just under a year ago, and the bezel is just painted plastic. I've taken one of mine apart, and there is no doubt about it.

@10 "Exactly which part of the older PSP's bezel do you believe is made out of metal" . . .
The silver part between the front and back is metal.
@8 . . . Gotta agree with 9 . . . what a stupid comment in a post that makes some good points. Way to make sure people ignore what you have to say, no matter how relevant or insightful.

#11.. On both of my launch PSP systems. The silver part between both the front and back is plastic.. Plastic painted with silver paint.
I have played other PSPs in addition to the ones I own and have never came across a PSP that has a metal bezel. Is there two versions? Because mine are definitely plastic.

Too many connections? The author is totally off base here. The single cable solution is an octopus monster. If you're in your hotel or at your desk transferring files, you'll have 3 to 5 extra cable ends (the AV connections) hanging off your desk. This is not sleek, slick, or cool. It's unwieldy. You could go for multiple cables, but then it would be just like the PSP, wouldn’t it?
So let's look at the PSP. A single USB cable with a power adapter handles everything but the AV. Ironically, you can buy the iPod USB power adapter, plug a regular USB cable into it and it works great. Then you just need the separate AV cable. Two cables. That's it. Only one proprietary part.
But you really want slick? If you’re going traveling with your laptop and you don’t need TV-out, you need only a single, thin USB. The iPod requires a dock connector and earphones at a minimum. Apple should be taking cues from Sony on this one, not the other way around.

I picked up a Daxter bundle this weekend (Target had 6 of them in their display case) and have been playing with the new system for the last couple of days.
So far, I am really happy with it. It is much lighter than I initially expected and the silver color is not nearly as "disco metallic" as I thought it might be. Also, the rounded edges on the system make it much more comfortable to hold. Last but not least, I love the feel of the new buttons (a bit more clicky than the old ones) and d-pad.
If I have any complaints, it is that the bundle didn't come with any kind of case and there aren't any 3rd-party cases available yet either. I am using the sleeve from my original PSP.

No actually, my Dexter pack didn't come with a wrist strap. I actually think the pack was a good deal, but throwing in a wrist strap would've been nice.
I won't ding them for the lack of cases & accessories as that's to be expected at launch. Although shipping at least a case & a visor (maybe I'm obsessive compulsive about scratches on the screen) would've been nice. Like #16, I'm using the sleeve that came with my original PSP to store the Slim.
I haven't yet decided if I like the new UMD mechanism. It works better than I thought it would though.
Since I use my PSP more than any other gaming system in my home, I think an external controller for it would be nice (now I'm just being crazy), and be able to use it at home like any other system.

BEWARE OF DEAD PIXELS! I received my daxter pack and I have a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. How could sony not have corrected this already? I called Sony and I'm waiting on an email on instructions on sending them back the psp. I just hope I don't get a refurbished one. Anybody else been getting dead pixels?
