What do you get when you add Sony's LocationFree with BeyondTV, a PSP and a dash of inginuity? The ability to watch TV on your PSP! Since Sony unveiled the LocationFree application, PSP hacks like these have been fairly commonplace. From the annals of LocationFree FAQs, we wanted to resurface this particular video that we missed the first time around. The research this fella completed in order to get his remote working on the PSP certainly piqued our interest and warrants another look. The Tonight Show video looks pretty darn sharp, with nary a hint of lag. I do believe, this calls for watching TV poolside.

And it doesn't look too difficult to get set up either. A write-up and how-to can be found In This Article

Don't you mean that "Your PSP Can Be A TV"? Remote control threw it off for me.

Let me know when this works with MythTV, because otherwise I really don't care. Actually, to be truthful, anyone who has a 3.00+ OE-A/A'/A''/B firmware will be unable to take advantage of this hack... well, I suppose with the use of DevHook it's possible, or with UndilutedPlatinum, but to be honest...

Kichigai,
I would think it would work with MythTV just as well as it does with Beyond Tv.

#5, locationfree is amazing and worth every penny. I have it hooked up to my Comcast DVR and I can watch pre-recorded stuff, or live TV. I can change channels, program shows to record, or delete shows. As long as you can upload at 350kbps and obviously download from a remote location your video will be skip-free. Quality is pretty good, not DVD, but very watchable, to near perfect when your in the house...great for rooms without a TV. I set my GF up with it while she takes a bath, she rests it on a towel on the counter and watches her show(s). The newer boxes use a better codec but drop the built in Tunner (and WiFi on the cheap model).

I'm a little lost, I thought Location Free player was suppose to allow you to watch TV on your PSP? So what exactly is the hack.
I'm sure i'm missing something but in my mind you could change the sentence to
"What do you get when you add Sony's LocationFree, a clown, a PSP and a dash of pepper? The ability to watch TV on your PSP!
and it would still be true.

Zapp,
Speaking of clowns - it's always best to read a post before spewing...
This guy is using a LFPk1 without learning capability so the problem with streaming to an HTPC like BeyondTV is that the LocationFree base did not have any method to control the PC remotely. Specifically, the built-in remote codes for the base do not cover any PC remote controls.
He found a way around this and therefore was able to use the cheaper LFPk1 locationfree unit instead of the newer ones so it was a matter of $60 on ebay for the old unit vs. $200 or so for a newer unit.

Zapp,
He's using the older verions of locationfree which didn't have the learning ability - in other words couldn't tell the HTPC what to do. So using an HPTC wouldn't have been possible without the workaround he used. He used the older version because it was $60 on ebay vs. $200 for a newer version...
So there's an explanation fitting for a clown :)

Now I get it, clowns were never part of the equation.
Thanks Brent for clearing that up for me.
