Finally: another use for PSP's IR port. New homebrew from Fanjita and harleyg called "piKey" lets OE users the ability to use keyboards with the PSP. "Imagine being able to use your keyboard to control any PSP game or homebrew, and even the PSP's XMB menu and on-screen keyboard, automatically and without needing any changes to the other software. This is what piKey aims to give you."
An installer is included to make installation as easy as possible. The software is compatible with various infrared keyboards through the IR port, and serial I/O via the PSP's headphone socket. The download includes an user's manual to make things a bit easier.
The attractiveness of using a keyboard with the PSP seems limited to me: the device is a handheld, not a computer. However, it's certainly an interesting program. Download it at PSP Gen.

It's not limited to you at all, I am well aware that the PSP is a hand held but by no means does that mean a Keyboard would not be very useful.
I am a PC FPS gamer at heart and I still prefer a mouse and keyboard, why not have a fold out keyboard and mouse to play FPS on the PSP as well?? Surfing would be much funner as well.
It's just such a load that this is not an official option. You should be able to get this with the latest firmware without have to use a hack. Again Sony WTF!

The website is in French? That doesn't bode well for troubleshooting. I really wish they'd provide a list of known compatible keyboards. Guess I'll just scour the forums hoping someone will post their experiences. I've long been dreaming of using a keyboard on my psp... and I'm ITCHING to try it out.

holy crap. why cant sony do this? this is like one step away from being able to use an actual keyboard instead of the one on the PSP's screen. the wi-fi would be so much better if they could do that.

A keyboard sure would be handy and could turn the PSP into a cheap laptop as well and make replying to email actually functional.
