According to
Tom Kiss, the PLAYSTATION 3 is getting updated next week. Why should you care? It finally introduces the Advanced Remote Play functionality that we've been
dreaming about. The 1.6 firmware revision for the PS3 will allow you to access your PS3's media content from
any wi-fi point in the world. For example, let's say you have an episode of
Death Note saved on your PS3. By having Remote Play enabled, you'll be able to stream that video to your PSP whilst at work.
The connectivity opens a lot of potential. "If I have my MP3 Walkman or my iPod, or digital camera connected to PS3 then I can access those devices too," a spokesman for Sony said less than
a month ago. However, don't expect to play back your DVDs or Blu-Ray movies on the go: Remote Play hasn't been able to
access disc content, and that probably won't change for a while.

Really don't get the apparent appeal here. It really doesn't seem too practical to 1. have to leave your PS3 on 2. Have to convert videos that you have to mp4, all so that you can check the stuff out when you're at a hotspot?
This would be an AMAZING feature if the PS3 supported wake up on lan, xvid and adding files to the HDD over the network from a computer.

So is this to say I could hook up a USB camera and be able to access it via wifi, turning the camera into a live security camera ?

I think this is AWESOME.
So I take my video collection and do a batch conversion.
Now I load it on my PS3 and it is accessible anywhere I have hotspot access.
Brilliant!

I own a PS3 and of course a PSP so this is awesome for me. I wonder though, if your PS3 will have to be on all day for you to access it on the PSP...

same question as Roy. I think it should cause your connecting it via wi-fi from lets say, starbucks, that it going through the internet to your PS3, not the PS3's wi-fi

Orb streams from computer to console (Wii or PS3)...this streams from PS3 HDD (which Wii doesn't have) to the PSP...its kinda sorta completely different.

It can't be accesed from anywhere! I read it back and forth and you can only acces the PS# remote play either from the direct wireless setting or having a wireless router physicaly connected to the PS3 then accessing the remote play from the PSP to the wireless
router wich is connected by ethernet cable to the PS3. But it will be sweet when we can access from anywhere...
