Yet again Sony has released a downloadable game on the PlayStation Store that is already available in a better form on PSP. The original
Wipeout from the days of PS1 has landed in downloadble form on Sony's PS3 market. I'm sure for hardcore
Wipeout fans this is exciting and more playable games for PSP is never a bad thing, but why can't Sony focus on games that aren't already available on PSP and give us some downloadable games worth getting excited about? I'm sitting with my hands outstretched and they have money in them. Sony can take that money as soon as they give me some games I want to download and enjoy on my PSP.

The original Wipeout is incredible, and one of the few reasons I got a PS1. It also has different physics as far as nose-diving and pulling back that Pure doesn't have. I can't believe you're hating on the best download yet.

There are some games that I would download right away , if Sony woyuld make a different download station , where I could put PSone games to my PSP ( ex : Crash , any of the RE games , this , Tekken etc. ) . The download numbers would rise dramatically IF there would be a different option to download games :( Thats what you have to do Sony !

Hector, re-read the article. He wasn't hating on WipeOut, but he just said that a nearly identical version exists for the PSP already. And with Wipeout Pure being rather old, the price-difference isn't that much either.
This is yet another incredibly stupid move by Sony. I think they smoke weed... or rather they smoke, eat and drink weed.

Is there any good reason why they don't start releasing.. you know... interesting games? AS it's been said ten times, any of the RE games would sell like hotcakes, and what about adventure titles like "The Curse of Monkey Island"? Games like that would be PERFECT for the PSP. And how about PSN PSP titles? You know, small games like Flow etc for the PSP?
Anyone disagree?

I think the reason they're still not releasing top games is because of the lack of PS3 users with a PSP. Maybe Sony is waiting until the PS3 fanbase grows.
I'm pretty sure Japan has more users with both systems, and that's why they've gotten more games.

Nope. Both systems have a far larger install base in North America than anywhere else - http://www.vgcharts.org/
I wonder if it has to do with what the division chooses to put out. Like, maybe it's SCEJ's choice to actually release games worth playing, whereas SCEA isn't putting much into PS1 games at all.
I truly doesn't make sense to me because it just seems like it's free money for them. Aside from the relatively minimal costs of testing it to make sure the game works through emulation, and hosting the file, they're guaranteed to get thousands upon thousands of purchases if they release real games. Say of the 500 000 connected PS3 users, 1 in 5 downloads Resident Evil 1 - that's 100 000 purchases, and say after fees they only make $3 a purchase, that's $300 000 in the bank for almost no investment.
It's just like how networks are finally cool with releasing TV shows on DVD - it costs nothing, so the return is huge.

Mind you, a downloadable Wipeout doesn't come in a case that can be easily cracked and rendered unplayable, like mine was.
I miss cartridges.

Since Sony makes these privates studies, maybe they are using certain unreleased statistics. Maybe more Japanese gamers who own a PS3 do own a PSP, and American PS3 owners, or at least a big part of them, don't.
Or maybe Sony is just waiting to release bigger titles for certain dates, because, to be fair, I don't think Resident Evil 1 for the PSP will actually sell more PS3s.
Just trying to make it look logical.

look at hte games sony is putting out, most are first generation ps1 titles,
if you put out a really good game out now with so small an installed base, (2million is small to what the ps3 install base will be) by the time a person gets a ps3 or wifi downloads are enable that awesome gem of a game would be lost in the rough. most of youre money on downloads is made when it first comes out.
2. it makes better sence. as much as i am a diehard wipeout fan (except fusion). i would doubt that i would download wipeout if wipeout xl/2097 was available first. and while this is obvious with sequeals, this also applies to the progres of graphics and gameplay over the couse of the ps1 as well. once you taste the besst at teh end of a consoles life why go back to the garbage at the front.
3. most of these titles seem to be at least somewhat under sony control. i wonder what's the holdup with 3rd party psone to come on PSN. either way i'm sure sony already has a pre planned schedule of when to let the good stuff out. and most likely just when it will be most benifical to profit and reputation.
4. is the emulater that perfect? i dunno weather it was the not so efecient programing of the psygnosis original, but playing the wipeout downloaded from PSN last night and this morning there were a few times i think i noticed a little framerate slowdown. not a good sign on a ps1 launch title.
5. philosima, tell sony i want this crazy graphics showoff shooter for my psp. (has to toss that in there)
