There may not be much PSP related news out of GDC yet, but you can comfort yourself by knowing the system has lots of great games already. With that in mind, every day this week we'll feature a new genre and list the top 5 games (according to metareviews), so no matter what you're into, you'll have some idea of what games you should own. Today the focus is on strategy games, which the PSP doesn't have a lot of, but there are some notable and enjoyable ones (like the games on the list below).
Top 5 Strategy games on PSP
- Sid Meier's Pirates!
- Metal Gear Ac!d 2
- Field Commander
- Metal Gear Ac!d
- Worms: Open Warfare
I know many gamers hated the Metal Gear Ac!d series, but they are some of my personal favorite games on the system. Actually, I enjoyed all the games on this list, except for Pirates!, only because I have yet to try it. But what do you think about these 5 games? What strategy games aren't on this list that you think every PSP owner should have?
If you missed it, you can check out our previous top 5 game lists:

While I believe that Pirates! is the better game overall (just much higher fun factor), I think MGA2 deserves the top spot as far as "strategy" games go on PSP. While Pirates! does involve strategy, it also involves a lot of action making the strategy aspect watered down when compared to MGA2.
Again, Pirates! is an excellent game, but as far as "strategy" goes, I think numbers one and two should be swapped.

I still haven't tried Pirates!, but just because I don't have it.
Both MGA are great games that go beyond strategy/card to create a stylish rpg-like assemble game (or something).

@ ProPorn,
Hey, you should definitely buy Sid Meier's Pirates, that game's REALLY fun. Build up a good fleet, woo the Governer's Beautiful daughter, get some revenge, keep your pirates happy, good times! Really, for $30, that's a lot of fun.
Also, how does the card exporting work in MGA2? You can only export one of your weapon cards or something like that? I'd like to get MGA2, but there's no shortage of good games to get before then...

Whats wrong with ports? I get my most gaming out of the PSP these days, and really enjoy good ports, since I havent tried (most of) them in their original format. As long as they are well adapted and based on games that have actually proven themselves on som e other platform, it's great.
Surely I cant be alone in this position?
Field Commander, for instance, I would absolutely preferred a port of some better game in the genre, like C&C/Red Alert or whatever. The AI in Field Commander was a stupit twat, and the gamelength was mediocre, although the finish and mechanics was quite allright.

Pirates was a huge disappointment for me. I found the game too repetitive and technically lacking. I was disappointed by the limited freedom of movement in the duels, in the tavern, in the cities, and on the treasure hunting expeditions. Above all, I was extremely annoyed by the Pirate Hunters. Past a certain point in the game, I was literally constantly surrounded by pirate hunters. The most annoying part was that the bounty never cleared, even after being defeated by a pirate hunter.
