Until they realized it was a fake. Chaos Zero, who originally released the malfunctioning program to the masses, went on record, publically apologizing for the whole incident. As stated on PSP-HaXors, "It was fake, and we've all seen fakes in the past. And will probably continue to see them. Instead of pointing fingers at the testers, it's better to just move on."
While it doesn't appear any PSP systems were bricked during this incident, it is scary to know that there are malicious people out there trying to create hoax programs that could potentially harm your PSP. While some of the benefits of homebrew may seem appealing, there are certainly a few dangers that come with the territory.

I remember back in days. Someone release a downgrader program that contain virus will brick your PSP. But you can always check out those PSP modchip website. They are able to place a modchip on your PSP motherboard and make it function again. I always wait for couple days or even weeks before trying out new hack programs, at least read some feedback on them before trying to install on my PSP.

I'm amazed that people jump on these things so soon. It's better to wait until others have used it for awhile. It isn't just fakes I worry about, but bugs as well. It took me forever to adopt devhook .46. I'm still waiting on the sidelines to dive into .51.

The same way they always did, genius. The downgrader was for people who were unable to run home brew in the first place.

Honestly, why do people's thongs get in such a twist over this? If you got credit, do you plan on printing it out, hanging it on your wall and showing it to your grandkids one day? It's a freaking video game blog.
Ok, maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, so I'll say something nice. Radioscott gives good advice, and Andrew, thanks for continuing your recognition of the homebrew scene.

Seriously, no symapthy. I own an original, never upgraded PSP 1.5, but I certainly wouldn't bi*ch if I KNOWINGLY downloaded a hack that had the potential to brick my PSP. Give me a break, verify before use.
