Remember when we asked if the Official PlayStation Magazine hated PSP games? Well, it looks like Sony doesn't care much about the magazine either as they announced the magazine's discontinuation today. "With the launch of the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and its full network and Web capabilities, we are focused on delivering content via the PlayStation Network and PlayStation.com website, not discs," said Peter Dille.
Makes sense to me. With the newly revamped PlayStation.com and PlayStation Store coming, there's no reason to have a print magazine... especially when the main reason people get the magazine is for the demo discs. The final issue of OPM will be the January 2007 issue. Fans of OPM's editorials need not fret, however. The 1UP team will continue providing editorial content available exclusively for PS3 owners.

[Update 1: The European version of OPM will continue. While the US magazine is published by Ziff Davis, it appears that the UK's magazine, handled by Future, will still continue. Source: GI.biz]

Yeah I remember OPM saying that they were worried about this in a podcast. Maybe they'll do PSP demos. Then again, they can do that on the net too.

Noooooooooooo
I buy the magazine because I like it the demos frequently ar not the type i play anyway.
I liked their honesty, if a game sucked they said so. If it was great they said that too. There never seemed to be any affiliation with sony as far as games went (obviously they prefered sony hardware to er MicroSoft).
I think they should at least keep it going until the release of the PS3 in the UK which wont be until March 07 (AT THE EARLIEST!!!!)
And there will still be console shortages then!!

That's a load of crap, I payed for a years subscription! And by the way, I never got my November issue with the Guitar Hero 2 demo, which was the only one I ever cared about. Stupid mail man probably stole it to rock out.

This is just another indication that print circulation is really sinking. The male base--one of the most loyal bases in terms of magazines--are to fault for magazine's decreasing trends. This is because the internet really is beginning to dominate lives. This has effected technology-related and automotive magazines.
And, then, OPM really hates the PS3 and PSP anyways. And it is not like they even cover the PSP in their magazine.

I for one will be disappointed to see the magazine go. The demo disc was a bonus on top of the articles and reviews for the games. I never paid much attention to the scores themselves, but mostly what the authors had to say. They were clear about what genre of games they were into before ripping Dynasty Warriors 17 apart.
One column in particular that has grown on me; In My Day by Joe Rybicki
At least I can still print them off from the web and read them in the John... I prefer reading on paper than my PSP or any screen or monitor for that matter.

I'm sorry, but magazines that only look at one console (or brand) are annoying. OPM, PSM, Nintendo Power, and OXM are all horrible magazines. I've had subscriptions to all of them; overall, we're better off without. I prefer balanced opinions (or seemingly balanced opinions) from from mags and sites that cover all the consoles.
Leave the "proprietary media shoving" to the respective manufacturers, and stop wasting trees. LOL

They have the nerve to blame their cancellation on online demos now being available. Shows you how pathetic the actual magazine content was, if people got it just for demos.

Wow I called it. On 'Does OPM hate PSP?' I said OPM would take a huge hit once everyone got downloadable demos. Sounds like Sony saw this too and tanked the mag. Who really bought it to read anyways? People got it for the monthly demos.

You know, I was kind of screwed when GMR was discontinued by EBGames. Now, I better get a full refund or a nice game for the renewed subscription that I just paid for.

Someone else was missing their GH2-demo issue? I am, too! I sent in a request recently for it after I noticed it never arrived. I keep all my magazines in order and only noticed about 2 days before the latest issue got here.
