Lik-Sang said, "Hong Kong's laws are clear when it comes to parallel trade, and the company has no ties whatsoever with the UK." However, ruling Judge Michael Fysh saw things differently by saying "The acts of which the complaint is made have, in my view, been perpetrated not in Hong Kong but here in the EEA, and without Sony's consent."
[Update: Lik-Sang has officially closed its doors. Here's an excerpt from the press release:
"Lik-Sang.com, the popular gaming retailer from Hong Kong, has today announced that it is forced to close down due to multiple legal actions brought against it by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Sony claimed that Lik-Sang infringed its trade marks, copyright and registered design rights by selling Sony PSP consoles from Asia to European customers, and have recently obtained a judgment in the High Court of London (England) rendering Lik-Sang's sales of PSP consoles unlawful. As of today, Lik-Sang.com will not be in the position to accept any new orders and will cancel and refund all existing orders that have already been placed."
Lik-Sang notes that many individuals of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe received their PSPs via a Lik-Sang import:
"The list of PSP related Sony Europe orders reads like the who's who of the videogames industry, and includes Ray Maguire (Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Alan Duncan (UK Marketing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Chris Sorrell (Creative Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Rob Parkin (Development Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited), just to name a few."]
[Update: Sony denies responsibility for the closure, according to GI.biz: "Lik-Sang did not contest this case (i.e. they did not turn up and therefore incurred no legal costs). We have been awarded substantial costs against Lik-Sang which have not been paid... The purchasing of PSP consoles by SCE employees would be for investigatory purposes. We would also like to express our surprise at a company releasing personal information about its consumers." +1 Sony, -1 Gamers]

That's just pathetic. Corporate greed and bending of judges equates to fewer choices for the consumer. I wish Sony would spend half that money fighting Lik Sang on their advertising and PSP first party support.
Then again, Nintendo successfully sued Lik Sang before, too, so it's not like Sony was the only part played in their downfall.

Great.
Like I need another reason to hate Sony.
Maybe if Europe wasn't treated like the second class video game community, people wouldn't import the crap. I would import stuff too if the alternative was waiting 6 months to just pay a higher price.
Lik Sang was always a great place to get games & accessories you couldn't get in the states. Some of the stuff, I couldn't even find in Chinatown.

Link sang lived thanks to Sony?.Didnt know that i always thought they lived out of Nintendo and 3rd party crap.
While all the losers above(and probably under this post) that only flame Sony because they dare to run against Nintendo and because they dare to pull out better stuff that they cant afford.Suddenly pretending like they care since you know....they havent buy in their lives anything from link sang EVER!!!.
I think no one really cares except link sang piss off clients that paid for stuff before this issue. Those guys will totally hate sony.Rofl
A Big Kekekeke to them.
I still dont know why this issue started .i think they start to sell bad PSP and sony stuff from honk kong since it is the World Capital of cheap stuff and piracy and they blame Sony or something,i couldnt care less i knew link sang selled crap like ebay.
I want to see Sony closing Ebay,Those bastards truly deserve to be closed for selling crap, used stuff as new and buying all the consoles in retail stores 'cause they want to resell them on the net for 1000$.
They should shut down every freaking web site that sells crap, that would be totally cool.

Ladsaber, you are to the written word what old Russian MiG jets are to air show audiences.
I specifically said NINTENDO played a part in this. And for the record, I never had any problems with Lik Sang - and I ordered several items from them I'd never have had access to, otherwise. And your rant about ebay is hilarious -- We need to ban auction sites because some people sell rare items at a profit when illiterate, lazy sacks of shit like yourself didn't get up early enough to pre-order a PS3.
On the whole, I usually find Nintendo fanboys to be more prolific and annoying online, so thank you for reminding me that there's hydrocephalic FUCKTARDS on the Sony side of things, too.

I run a business similar to Lik-Sang, from Japan rather than from Hong Kong (www.jlist.com), although we don't really do the consoles. It's shocking to think that parallel importing, which has been a part of the global economy since forever, could be under attack like this. I, for one, will not alter my own business one whit, and might see about getting some of those fancy consoles in for my customers...

I try real hard to like Sony these days, but this is an abomination. I wonder if what they gained in putting Lik-Sang out of business compares favorably to what they've lost in image. Bastards.

THIS SUCKS!!!!! I've delt with Lik Sang many times - they were ALWAYS great with me. I could always find the stuff I couldn't find locally there, at a good price. Makes me want to send Sony hate mail. Makes me sorry I bought a PSP - I don't want to give Sony any more of my money!!!
Sorry Lik Sang. R.I.P.

I too have bought many items from Lik Sang that I couldn't even find in Chinatown. And yes, thanks Lad for showing that there's an ignorant fanboy of every type for us gamers to make fun of.
For everyone else.

Regardless of your individual feelings regarding Lik-Sang the whole mess sets a bad precedent. Its just another example of a company using a friendly court system to protect their business interests over ever dwindling consumer "rights". Sony's safety arguments and concern for the consumer are thinly veiled excuses to protect their revenue stream.
I fear for the importing and homebrew communities as a whole for daring to buck against Sony's wishes. If they can use a foreign court to rule against a legal business what's to stop them from using court action to stifle third-party inovation in the name of consumer protection?
For my own selfish interests I wish the best for those bucking against Sony and continuing to make their products work "better" than intended.

I like the games but Sony is like the Fox news of game companies: full of BS and when someone calls them on it, "Who, US??"
Of course they didn't show up to EVERY court case. Lik Sang probably only had one part time lawyer on their staff not the army of high priced shylocks Sony's got working for them IN EVERY COUNTRY.
What's next on their agenda, getting rid of ebay. My friends in the UK bought their PSPs from there not Lik Sang.

Lik-Sang's closing?! Does this mean that anybody who ordered or in case of Wii and PS3 pre-ordered (hardware or games) I saying basically purchased anything in the last few weeks won't recieve their orders? Places like Lik-Sang and Play-Asia need to stay in business. How are people supposed to get foreign software titles and unique hardware for their game systems without places like these?

Big D: Yep, you're not getting your items. However, Lik Sang is working to get your money back, assuming your item hasn't shipped.
Gonzo: That's not the issue. The issue is that Lik Sang isn't reponsible under parallel trade laws.
Ladsaber: certainly READ what you post before you post it. LIK Sang, not Link. It's like if you went to a foreign country and people mangled your name because they simply didn't care. As far as Lik Sang closing goes, do YOU have a suggestion as to where I can get spare parts for my Dreamcast so I can replace that busted GD-ROM drive of mine? As far as closing eBay, have you ever heard of capitalism and the free market? Or are you a COMMUNIST? Seriously, the only countries that don't support the open/free market are (former) Communist nations. Soviet Union, People's "Republic" of China, Cuba... You don't want to be a COMMUNIST, do you? ;)
Pixelator: possibly the most thought out comments here. Congrats! Key difference between the Nintendo and Sony issues: did Nintendo utterly destroy Lik Sang, or make them stop selling their items?
Bah, Sony just shot themselves in the Baby Maker over this one. Bad PR. They're going to lose a few PS3s over this one. Besides, the PSP's region free as far as games are concerned. Is it really THAT big a deal if a few people import PSPs? After all, Lik Sang has to acquire them from somewhere, and that somewhere should lead back to Sony at some point.
