Asphalt Urban GT 2 Screens

Gamespot has some Asphalt Urban GT 2 screens up now and while they don't look terrible, they certainly don't compare to the looks of Burnout Dominator. Graphics aren't everything certainly, but the PSP is capable of some very nice looking games and it's difficult to not form comparisons. I've never played the first game though, so maybe the gameplay will more than make up for any graphical short comings. Anyone played this series? If so, was it worth your time?

Another PS1 racer comes to PSP

Rally Cross was just added to the Playstation Store and you can download it to your PSP through your PS3. Don't have a PS3? Well like a Sony exec, I'll tell you to go find a friend who has one and use them for it.

Rally Cross goes for the usual price of $5.99, Sony operators are standing by!

Metareview: Need for Speed Carbon: Own the City

Metareview: Need for Speed Carbon: Own the CityThis franchise has come a long way since it was released on the 3DO back in the mid-90s. I remember how frustrated I got having to slow down to a near stop just to successfully navigate a curve. But now, the Need for Speed franchise is one of the best around, and it seems Need for Speed Carbon: Own the City continues the franchises forward progression.

PGNx Media
(87/100) - It's one of the rare times where you should purchase both the console versions and the PSP version since both offer different yet extremely compelling racing.

Games Radar (80/100) - We're definitely keen on the PSP version, serving up some solid racing fun that'll get your heart pumping and your fingers moving. Just be sure to get by with a little help from your friends.

IGN (70/100) - Own the City simply feels like more of the same. Sure, there's an open city and wingmen that'll take out your opponents during a race, but neither of these are huge, game-changing additions.

I haven't had the chance to play the game yet, but from these reviews, it seems like a pretty decent game. Hopefully, EA continues the Need for Speed franchise on the PSP.

Midway releases LA Rush gameplay trailer

Midway has just released a gameplay trailer for LA Rush, which is due out in November. Featuring "amazing jumps, spectacular stunts," the game allows players to customize their cars by dropping them off at West Coast Customs, race against other players wirelessly and allows you to pull off some crazy jumps in the Stunt Arena.

Judging by the video, the game looks like it's a lot of fun. And with West Coast Customs in the game, you're biggest decision could be whether you want a tanning bed or fireplace in your car.

Gran Turismo Mobile shoved aside for PS3 dev

Devil May Cry for the PSP made a brief reappearance today, as did Gran Turismo 4 Mobile. The "indefinitely delayed" game was pushed aside so that the development team can finish their work on the PlayStation 3 follow-up in the Gran Turismo series. Once they're done with that (and who knows how long that'll take?), the development team expects to move onto finishing the PSP game.

Sadly, it appears that the game probably could've been released much earlier: "We've reached the stage where a GT4 equivalent runs on the PSP hardware," Polyphony Digital commented to Eurogamer. While the PSP doesn't suffer from a lack of racing titles, it's disappointing to see one of Sony's premiere development studios simply abandoning work on the handheld.

Sonic Rivals trailer

Sonic has been cursed with some pretty mediocre gameplay in the past generation when placed in the third dimension. But, the 2D platformers found on the Game Boy Advance were all very solid. Sonic Rivals, the upcoming PSP-exclusive title features 2D gameplay, but with 3D graphics.... So, will it fall into the same curse that all the other 3D Sonics have?

This trailer shows off some solid (and very speedy) graphics, but the gameplay worries me. Does it seem a bit too shallow? I'm afraid that because of its focus on racing, it might forget the important platforming element so crucial to a platform game. You watch the trailer and you be the judge.

Micro car racing on the PSP? What a novel idea!

Wow. I was so thrilled at the news that Micro Machines v4 was headed for the PSP that I yawned exactly three times. Admittedly, I could be alone on this side of the fence. Maybe there're people out there who like the idea of racing tiny cars around normally mundane environments like your kitchen. Maybe there're people out there who like reminiscing back to a time when the Micro Machines game license was still worth more than poop. Maybe there're people out there who just have a thing for causing themselves great pain. Who knows? All I know for sure at this moment is...meh.

OutRun 2006: C2C gets official release date

Good news, everyone! Sega has finally settled on a definite release date for OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast. Expect all console versions of the game to arrive, tires squealing, on store shelves by March 21, with the PC version arriving on the 11th of April. Finally, we can stop wasting our quarters on the kiddie car at the neighborhood supermarket. Sweet.
