UK Deal of the Day: Pink PSP for cheap

While the PSP Fanboy staff comes from the good ol' US of A, many of our readers do not. In fact, besides America, the United Kingdom makes up the second greatest demographic for us (10%), beating out other territories like Canada (4%), Germany (3%), and "Unknown Country" (2%).

So, let's celebrate our UK readers! Today, we have a special Deal of the Day just for you: amazon.co.uk is offering the pink PSP for only £99.99 (w/ free shipping), making it the same cost as the pink DS. Surely you, or your female friends, will appreciate it.

Girls, watch out! Pink headphones don't work

The Pink PSP is all the rage (everywhere but America). But, the Pink PSP headphones are not as nice. At least, according to PSP GadgetZ. The man that buys everything PSP-related was surprised to see that although his new black headphones worked fine, these pink official earbuds do nothing at all. Is it just a one-time defect, or is the entire line-up of pink headphones from Sony busted up? I'd like to think the former, but just in case, you may want to avoid this import.

Pink PSP proves pretty popular

ITmedia is reporting that the pink PSP is doing quite well, with a 70% female audience, aged 20 to 40. This is a market largely ignored by Nintendo's efforts: younger than the Brain Age-obsessed moms, and older than the Nintendogs-loving girls. Accessories, like the pricey Samantha Thavasa pink PSP case sold out "instantly," proving that a simple color change can expand the PSP's market quite a bit.

Of course, Sony seems to understand that everywhere except the US, where gamers have been limited to one PSP color: black, and black alone. When will Sony realize that this is just limiting their ability to sell more systems? Certainly, the upcoming Silver system which hits Japan this week will also help boost sales.

Pink PSP party photos

If you ever wanted to be a Japanese chick magnet, then you better start dressing up in all pink. Sony threw a very pink party in Roppongi, Japan to celebrate the recent launch of the pink PSP. The crowds gathered, men and women. The women were there for the new shiny pink toy. And the men? Most likely for the shiny pink booth babes.

Nintendo wants to get everyone to play games: girls, dads, moms, and the elderly. Titles like Nintendogs were bundled with pink DS systems, alluring unsuspecting females to become gamers. Shock! Sony's trying to appeal to girl gamers with its Pink PSP (above, via PSP-Vault). However, it looks like the gamer below didn't need a pink system. She has fun with the PSP just by itself.

Images of new bundles (aka Pink PSP has worst box ever)

Oh no! The PSP bundles have been fairly attractive so far (especially the Killzone pack), but I guess Sony wanted to make a really hideous one for the girls. Does having P!nk scream at your face make you want a PSP? I think not. Hopefully, someone at Sony just got fired.

Kingplayer also has pictures of the other bundles that are being made available to Europeans, like the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories bundle. (Interestingly, the Pink PSP's Base Pack is a lot more elegant than this celebrity-endorsed version.)

Video Sandwich: October 23, 2006

Somehow, an internet video creator used monkeys and fart jokes to create a more tasteful way of discussing the white and black PSP than Sony. The "moral" of the story will certainly piss readers off, but for those of you with YouTube accounts, you can go here to leave hateful comments. Besides, why would he spend so much time working on this video if he didn't genuinely like the PSP (regardless of its color)?

But maybe you don't like either the black or white PSP. Maybe you'd prefer a P!nk PSP. The celebrity can be seen prancing around, showing off her PSP once in a while. Will this appeal to the all-important girl demographic? I think not. Now, if Sony made a Justin Timberlake PSP, the girls would go hogwild, 'cuz y'know... he's so dreamy! ::swoon::

You know, while riding the NYC subway, I saw someone playing with the Tsukimi Signature PSP. Knowing that those cost upwards of $500, I wanted to talk to the man, shake his hand... and rob him. I refrained, of course, hoping that one day I'd meet someone with the Kacho-Fugetsu PSP.

I think the entire PSP community has grown a little tired of the black PSP. While attractive, the fact that it's been standard for so long makes us desire things like the white PSP, even if it doesn't necessarily look "better." Even the newly-announced pink PSPs been getting a fair share of attention, simply because it's different. TGBus may have sent us on a wild goose chase with that Resident Evil video, but the pictures of the pink PSP they discovered are the real deal. Check out the pinkness after the cut:

Get ready girls: Pink PSP!

Maybe all this talk about a PSP redesign is from all these new colors of the PSP that are being revealed at once. You may remember Sony's insanely expensive Signature PSPs. Well, add another new "limited edition" color to the mix: pink. Or, should I say p!nk, because it's designed "in collaboration" with the somewhat popular pop star. It'll come in a Value Pack only and cost €229, or £169. And yes, like many cool things Sony-related, this is solely Europe-only. You'll also pick up some exclusive downloads from YourPSP.com when you purchase the pink system. From the press release: "PSP is not exclusively for men, there is a PSP for everyone, and whoever you are, PSP can fit into your life."

I'm somehow doubting the limited edition nature of this package. You may remember that all hell broke loose once the pink DS Lite came out. Who wouldn't want to capitalize on the rabid girl market? Of course, Sony's done stranger things before... like refuse to bring the white PSP to the US.
