It's great to see Capcom engage their fan community with so much commitment. We may not understand the Japanese fascination with the Monster Hunter franchise, but we certainly are jealous of the perks they receive for their fandom.

You're not invited: Japan's Monster Hunter party
Capcom is celebrating the uber-success of their PSP Monster Hunter game by throwing a party in Tokyo. The event, which will span two days (February 9-10) will give 1600 lucky registrants of the official Monster Hunter website a chance to mingle with other Monster Hunter fans. In addition, they'll be the first members of the public to try the upcoming 2G game, to continue fueling their addiction.

Final Fantasy party tonight in San Francisco
Sonia Im, of Square Enix North America, has posted on the PlayStation.Blog today to remind people that tonight is the launch party of Final Fantasy I 20th Anniversary edition. Details for the party can be found here.We wish we could be there, if only to gawk at all the people wearing funny clothes. Speaking of funny clothes, Sonia also mentions that due to the overwhelming reaction to the US boxart, there will be limited edition T-shirts available at the party. A sneak peek of the tee can be seen to the right. Shame we won't be there to get our hands on them ourselves. Hint hint.
If you're thinking of picking up Final Fantasy I for the PSP then be sure to check out our review coming out later.
Join the Final Fantasy 20th anniversary party

Attendees of the party will be able to purchase the newly remade PSP version of Final Fantasy, in addition to get a hands-on experience with the upcoming Final Fantasy II. The first one hundred fans to arrive will receive items exclusive to the event. Considering how rabidly devoted Final Fantasy fans are, we recommend you get there early.
If any PSP Fanboy readers are planning on attending, let us know: we'd love to see pictures from the event!
The Square Enix party lineup
It's the party that every Final Fantasy nerd (myself included) wants to go to: the Square Enix Party, happening later in May. With the exception of one mystery "never before seen" Final Fantasy game, Square has announced their list of games available on the showfloor:Playable
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion's War
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Video-Only
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy II
Does anyone else find it strange that, although Crisis Core is playable, two ports of NES games are not? Will these titles not be optimized enough by then? Regardless, getting play time with the PSP prequel to Final Fantasy VII seems like PSP Fanboy's dream come true. Anyone want to give me a plane ticket?

Mizuguchi launches in style

While the rest of the world has had the ability to enjoy Mizuguchi's Lumines II, Japan only recently got access to the puzzler. Unlike America and Europe, where the game was published by Buena Vista Games, this Q Entertainment effort is self-published in Japan, marking it as a huge milestone for the once-smalltime developer.
To celebrate the launch of Lumines II, Mizuguchi held a massive party in Air, a famous hot spot, a few blocks south of Shibuya station. Famitsu was on hand, offering tournaments, and the alcohol flowed freely. Check out IGN to see more pics and details from a night of puzzle-inspired debauchery.

Pink PSP party photos

If you ever wanted to be a Japanese chick magnet, then you better start dressing up in all pink. Sony threw a very pink party in Roppongi, Japan to celebrate the recent launch of the pink PSP. The crowds gathered, men and women. The women were there for the new shiny pink toy. And the men? Most likely for the shiny pink booth babes.
