American PC Store update for June 26th

America catches up with Europe today (we so rarely get to say that) as Medievil Resurrection becomes available on the PC Store and the PSN Store via PS3. As if to rub it in the faces of their European cousins, it's accompanied by an interview video and wallpaper. Both free, naturally. Here's the full release list:
  • Medievil Resurrection ($17) (also downloadable via PS3)
  • Medievil Resurrection Interview Trailer
  • Medievil Resurrection Wallpaper

Europe finally gets PS1 downloads

After months-long delay, Europe is finally getting a chance to download and play PS1 classics on their PSP and PS3 systems. Although there's no way to directly download games to the PSP yet, those fortunate enough to have both Sony machines will be able to access the following content next week, according to Three Speech:
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Wipeout
  • Medievil
  • Jumping Flash
  • Syphon Filter
Of these titles, we recommend Crash Bandicoot and Jumping Flash the most. These games will be available in the European PS Store on 6/22.

Retro Review: Medievil

Short Review
Not Recommended. Bringing Medievil to the PlayStation Store was a questionable decision at best. The original PSone game didn't bring anything new to the table, and it's PSP remake didn't fare any better. The gameplay has aged quite poorly over the past eight years, making Medievil a game that you'd like to like ... but can't. Don't let the endearing characters and setting fool you: Medievil is bad.

Medievil appears on Sony's battered PlayStation Store

While Japan enjoys a healthy addition of PSone games to the PlayStation Store, including Dino Crisis and R-Type, Americans are left with Medievil, a questionable-at-best addition to the store. Why, you ask? Didn't they already make a PSP remake of this game? It seems like Sony has to stop giving us games that already have PSP-exclusive sequels and remakes available.

This paltry update to the PSone library certainly doesn't make me want to jump and down and celebrate. However, for the sake of Retro Reviews, I would've downloaded it... if it was possible. The PlayStation Network is being hammered right now, most likely in preparation of the hotly-anticipated Gran Turismo HD demo.
