Ehrgeiz, Brave Fencer Musashi on Japanese PSN

Six more titles have popped up on the Japanese PSN. Two most of note are from Square Enix. One being a pretty good game in Brave Fencer Musashi and the other being the abysmal Ehrgeiz which is only interesting for the cameo FFVII characters. The other four games are b.l.u.e. Legend of Water, Raycrisis, Wizard's Harmony R, and Aquanaut's Holiday: Memories of Summer 1996.

A game like Ehrgeiz might be a game that's good to pick up for collectors and Final Fantasy freaks. This blogger owned the Japanese version back in the day and it's quite English friendly as most fighting games are. Just remember, to buy games off the Japanese store you need a Japanese account and a Japanese PSN card to load funds.

Star Wars Battlefront III could be heading to PSP

LucasArts has always been good about supporting Sony's handheld. In fact, they even graced the PSP with an exclusive Battlefront game, Renegade Squadron. In spite of the handheld's diminutive capabilities, the wizards at LucasArts managed to get 16-player infrastructure gameplay onto the system. The upcoming Force Unleashed reaffirms the commitment Lucas has towards the PSP.

A new listing on amazon.com shows Star Wars Battlefront III arriving on PSP, in addition to every other platform out there. With the last PSP Battlefront game being such a success, we can only hope that this listing turns out to be real. Guess we'll have to wait until E3.

Tales of the World 2 is a 'RPG made for you'

A few more details about Tales of the World 2 were revealed today. The upcoming PSP sequel will be developed by Alfa System, the team responsible for both the first Tales of the World game and the PSP Phantasy Star Portable. According to producer Ryuuji Ohdate, the sequel is an "RPG made for you," as it's mostly constructed by user feedback.

The number of characters in the game has been upped from 19 to 49, and the new character creation system is far more expansive than ever. Just like Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, the title will feature regular free DLC -- a tactic that has worked marvelously for Capcom.

Carry two extra memory sticks with new accessory

As an alternative to the UMEMD, PSPGadgetZ suggests you check out this other UMD-slot, slip-in memory stick holder for your PSP. Previously, the UMEMD could only be used inside the PSP-1000 models (fat ones); however, this new gadget can be used with both the fat and slim models. The only drawback is that this one can only hold two memory sticks -- half the UMEMD's capacity of four.

It looks like you can't currently buy this thing alone either; it comes together as part of other PSP accessories. You can check them out here and here if you're interested. There are also more pics over at PSPGadgetZ.

The Genki Rockets promote new album in Shibuya

Fans of Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Lumines games should be familiar with The Genki Rockets. The group of unnamed artists, including Mizuguchi himself, has performed a number of Lumines tracks, the most familiar of which is "Heavenly Star." The group is preparing a new album, creatively titled Genki Rockets 1. To promote their new album, the group played a show at the Shibuya Apple Store and performed various songs from Lumines II.

Songs from their performance will be available on iTunes later next month.

PSP Fanboy review: Secret Agent Clank

What went wrong? After an excellent first outing on PSP, High Impact Games has created a follow-up to Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters that's worse in almost every single aspect. Everything, from the presentation to the graphics to the core gameplay, has been downgraded in this PSP-exclusive. Could this be PSP's biggest software disappointment of the year?

The premise of Secret Agent Clank is quite intriguing. Inexplicably, Ratchet has broken into a museum and has stolen the universe's largest diamond. But what's his intent? Secret Agent Clank is sent on the case. The experience of playing as Clank is similar to Ratchet, but there's a greater emphasis on stealth and gadgetry. Busting out the big guns simply won't work with Ratchet's diminuitive friend.

Joystiq tries The Force Unleashed on PSP

We're pretty psyched for the PSP version of The Force Unleashed. Why? Well, it looks gorgeous. It also adds tons of PSP-exclusive features, like historical missions. You'll be able to recreate the epic battle between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in Episode V exclusively on PSP, for example. The lack of a second analog stick, according to Joystiq doesn't appear to hinder the game at all. "The PSP game still moved smoothly, and the automatic camera tracked from behind my character, usually providing an effective view of what I needed. In both versions, I felt in control of my aim, throwing the light saber at enemies, or launching other attacks from a distance."

Joystiq has a few new images of the PSP version in action in their gallery:

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 website and first screenshots

The first screenshots from Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 have been released by Famitsu on their website, along with a single one from Dengeki Online. The official site has also been launched here, even though there isn't any information in it other than the game is slated for a winter release in Japan. It also appears Veigue from Tales of Rebirth will make an appearance. There isn't much to go by at this point, but take a look at the three screenshots over at PSPHyper.

Gainax porting Princess Maker 5 to the PSP this fall

Gainax, an anime studio best known for Neo Genesis Evangelion, is going to be publishing something wholly different this fall on the PSP. Princess Maker 5, which was released on the PS2 in Japan last year, will be getting a port to the PSP. In all the Princess Maker games, you play as a man who adopts a daughter that you must raise. In this current incarnation the player raises a girl of royal heritage who is a candidate to become princess. He protects her after the other candidates for princess are killed and she is the next apparent target. The fifth game in the series will feature a modern setting, as opposed to a period setting in past games. For the first time you may also play as a mother to the girl. The game will be released on September 25th in Japan.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3 card details and release date

Though announced a while back, we now have a solid release date and details for Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3. Like the previous games in the series, this is a card battle game based on the anime spin-off Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. In this case, season 4 featuring characters like Jaden/Judai (and Haou Judai), Yubel, Trueman, Johan, and more. The new game will use the Official Card Game Master Rules while seasonal events and the mail system return from the original Tag Force game. It will also included any new Starter and Structure Decks that have released up until June 2008 in Japan, with a total of 3,500 obtainable cards.

For a highlight of cards revealed so far, take a look here. The official site from Konami is here. Shonen Jump scan is from GAForum. The game will be released September 25th in Japan. No word yet on whether this Tag Force game will make it to the US.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of July 6

Not much is going on this week. North America witnesses emptiness for the second week in a row, while Europe is lapping up all the games we got from the previous month.

NA Games:
  • No new releases
EU Games:
Asian Games:
Japan is finally getting God of War: Chains of Olympus. Also, the sight of Nobunaga's Ambition there makes this blogger question when will Koei ever bring a real Ambition game to the States? Nobunaga's Ambition: Rise to Power on the PS2 doesn't count; it's essentially Kessen with slightly more micromanagement. Oh the questions we hardcore gamers ask sometimes ...

PSP may have helped police catch multiple murderer

The last story we posted on, it appeared a PSP lead to a violent crime. We now have an even more violent story coming out of London; however, this time the PSP might have helped catch the murderer. The Sun reports that two 23-year old French post-graduate students shown above, Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, were "bound, gagged and stabbed to death" in an apartment in London on Sunday night. The police believe they were tortured for the PIN numbers to their ATM cards. Bonomo was stabbed 196 times and Ferez was stabbed 47 times.

Fortunately, the police did have clues. They "established that two Sony PSPs are missing and believe they were taken during the incident on Sunday when the two men were killed." They also released one of the PSP's serial numbers, SO1-0613169-C. Today, a 21-year old man has been arrested in connection with the murders. It is unclear whether the serial number released helped solve the crimes, but it is good to hear a culprit has been apprehended in these grisly murders.

[Note: Due to the tabloid nature of the Sun, here is the BBC's take.]
