Hey, you put a PSP in my Metal Gear Solid 4!

Metal Gear retrospective: MGS Portable Ops
Many of you may have played Portable Ops wanting to continue the story of Big Boss from Snake Eater. Others probably just wanted to get more Metal Gear into their systems after having played the Acid games. Whatever the reason, MGS fans alike were treated to seeing some familiar faces and having a bit of their stories fleshed out. If you haven't played the game, check out the retrospective to see what it's all about. It also looks like next week GameTrailers will be taking a look back at some of the other portable Metal Gear games, so look out for that.
Watch over 15 minutes of the next MGS digital comic
The best part about the second digital comic in the series is that there's finally voice acting this time around. However, with rumors flying about the comic not going to PSP but to DVD, we might not get to enjoy this beautiful "game" on our handheld. If it doesn't come to PSP, that would be a shame. Well, at least we have this clip.
Metal Gear Solid digital comic may skip PSP, go to DVD
Japanese retailer Game Star has listed a 2-disc DVD release for a new Metal Gear Solid digital comic, which includes both retellings. The planned release is June 12th, the same day as the PS3-exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4. Certainly, a DVD release would be more viable, and there are ways to get DVD content on to a PSP. We'll have to wait for more details.

PSP audience is 'important and new' for MGS director Kojima
Hideo Kojima, revered director of the Metal Gear series, recently talked about the PSP in an interview with IGN. He noted the success Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops has had, especially with the younger demographic. He notes that teens in Japan love the PSP: "middle school students, from 13 to 15, are really fanatical with the machine itself -- look at Monster Hunter Portable, for instance."The rampant fervor of the teenage PSP audience is what helped drive the Monster Hunter series into millions of units sold. This is obviously an audience that Kojima would love to capture: "I would like to continue with this, to aim at those middle school students because they are so interested with MPO right now. I would continue to try to reach them."
He gives an anecdote about his son. "He has always criticized it: 'Oh, Metal Gear is such a s****y game.' Until the point I released Portable Ops." From the sounds of it, Kojima certainly wouldn't want to disappoint his son, and it appears that a new PSP game from Kojima Productions is inevitable: "My son is really into Portable Ops as well: the use of the WiFi, the ability to play anywhere, bring it to school, etc ... It might not be the Metal Gear series, but I would like to consider this audience because it's very important and new."
Six PS1 games hit Japanese PSN

- Atelier Elie
- Crash Bash (aka Crash Bandicoot Carnival)
- Dezaemon Kids!
- Master of Monsters: Disciples of Gaia
- Metal Gear Solid
- Pro Mahjong Kiwame Plus II
That makes: one tactical espionage thriller in MGS, one RPG in Atelier Elie, a strategy adventure in Master of Monsters, Mahjong Plus II speaks for itself, Crash Bash is a party game, and Dezaemon Kids! is some sort of art title for children. Pretty nice list; however, MGS is top dog this week.
Metal Gear Solid downloadable hitting Japan soon

Rumour: Another Metal Gear Solid PSP title in the works
EGM's resident rumour-monger, Quartermann, has suggested in the latest issue that Kojima Productions have another PSP Metal Gear Solid game planned. This is completely unconfirmed and, at this stage, nothing more than a rumour but, to be honest, we wouldn't be surprised. There are no other details other than the implication that the game will be based on the early days of Snake's career. Makes sense really, seeing as how Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the last chapter of Snake's story - going backwards in the timeline is the only choice left.
New Metal Gear Solid videos look not-so-new
It's not a full sequel, so it's understandable that the visuals and presentation of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus look a bit ... underwhelming. It features the same great taste of the original, but we'd love to see the PSP's full 333MHz unlocked for a franchise that's known for pushing tech boundaries. Thanks to recent releases like Syphon Filter, we've been quite spoiled at what the PSP can (and should) be able to do. Thankfully, the game looks like a lot of fun.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus goes gold

"Infinity Mission" is the new single player campaign (a Sony e-mail misprinted Infinity War as the name of the entire game). Just like the original Portable Ops, players will be able to recruit new comrades and gain new weapons through the single player campaign. Additional multiplayer modes, such as Shooting Range and Training Mode, will ll test the skills of each player. In addition, Portable Ops+ will use the save data from the original game so that you can continue with the squad you had originally created.
Additional online maps in Plus include an updated version of the original Metal Gear Solid's REX Hangar. Additional characters, like Raiden and Old Snake, are also hidden in the game. Stay tuned for more.
What is Metal Gear Solid: Infinite War? [Update]

[Update: Ryan Patton responds: "Infinite War" was the codename I gave to the project before "MPO+" was decided on. Funny how things find their ways to retailers. Thanks, Random!]
Sleek new MGS:PO+ trailer
A brand new five minute trailer has been released for Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus. This Kojima Productions expansion pack looks stellar, and this new video trailer looks absolutely sleek. See new details on the single and multi player portions of the game, and see Old Snake in action.
