UK software sales chart, Nov. 5-11: The Brits dig GTA

UK software sales chart, Nov. 5-11: The Brits dig GTA: VCSDespite falling one spot from last week, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories is the top handheld in the United Kingdom for the second week in a row. Now, If there's one PSP franchise that's guaranteed to have massive success, it's gotta be Grand Theft Auto.
  1. Need for Speed Carbon (PS2)
  2. WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw 2007 (PS2)
  3. Call of Duty 3 (PS2)
  4. Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (Xbox 360)
  5. FIFA 07 (PS2)
  6. The Sims 2: Pets (PC)
  7. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PSP)
  8. LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (PS2)
  9. Medieval 2: Total War (PC)
  10. Bully (PS2)
I find it very interesting to look at the software charts from the three major regions. While the Japanese seem to exclusively play the DS, the Brits have more broader tastes in their games and systems. Now that Vice City Stories has been out in the UK for a couple weeks, it will be interesting to see if it can maintain its sales figures.

Japanese hardware sales, Oct. 30 - Nov. 5: PSP overtakes its big brother

Japanese hardware sales, Oct. 30 - Nov. 5: PSP overtakes its big brotherFor the last few months, the PSP has not only been outsold by the Nintendo DS, but also the PS2. However, it seems like those days could be over as the PSP has begun outselling the PS2 for the last two weeks.

- DS Lite: 113,097 45,584 (28.73%)
- PSP: 23,725 2,183 (8.43%)
- PS2: 20,982 850 (3.89%)
- Xbox 360: 6,580 5,015 (320.45%)
- GBA SP: 1,443415 (22.34%)
- Game Boy Micro: 1,299 52 (3.85%)
- Gamecube: 647 3 (0.47%)
- DS Phat: 373 259 (227.19%)
- GBA: 20 5 (33.33%)
- Xbox: 0 7 (100.00%)

It will be interesting to see how well the PSP does in the coming weeks with the launch of the Wii and PS3. The PSP has a strong lineup of games this winter, but Sony is going to have its work cut out for it to keep the PSP at the forefront of gamer's minds. Maybe Sony should start by adopting a new advertising campaign.

Japanese software sales chart - Aug. 28 - Sept. 3, Sega does what Sony can't

Japanese software sales chart - Aug. 28 - Sept. 3, Sega does what Sony can'tIsn't it great when the king of the hill is dethroned? Well, if you agree, then you may be happy to know Sega has done what Sony hasn't been able to by outselling all Nintendo games with its new online RPG Phantasy Star Universe.

1. Phantasy Star Universe (PS2) - 120,202 / *NEW
2. New Super Mario Bros. - (DS) 72,763 (2,974,027
3. Brain Age 2 - (DS) 46,662 / 3,119,857
4. Final Fantasy III - (DS) 45,949 / 549,001
5. Tingle RPG - (DS) 45,496 / *NEW
6. Cooking Navi - (DS) 35,689 / 419,733
7. Mario Hoops 3 on 3 - (DS) 34,001 / 267,763
8. Animal Crossing: Wild World - (DS) 32,605 / 3,181,735
9. Rythm Tengoku - (DS) 28,361 / 123,432
10. Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop 2 - (DS) 27,540 / 458,474

Aside from PSU, there has been some shuffling of Nintendo DS titles, but there are still no PSP games that have made it in the top 10 for the second week straight. Hopefully, this isn't a trend that continues, but it's always nice to see my beloved Sega doing something right every once and awhile.

Japanese software sales chart - Aug. 21-27: Our darkest hour

http://www.pspfanboy.com/2006/08/16/gundam-is-fastest-selling-psp-game-ever/We all knew something had to give with the pending release of Final Fantasy III. One of the games in the top 10 had to go, and unfortunately, that game just so happened to be Gundam, which was the only PSP game in the top 10.

1. Final Fantasy III (DS) - 503,051 / *NEW
2. New Super Mario Bros. (DS) - 65,556 / 2,901,264
3. Rune Factory (DS) - 42,210 / *NEW
4. Brain Age 2 (DS) - 41,784 / 3,073,195
5. Cooking Navi (DS) - 37,326 / 384,045
6. Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop 2 (DS) - 30,504 / 430,934
7. Mario Hoops 3 on 3 (DS) - 30, 355 / 233,762
8. Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS) - 30,023 / 3,149,130
9. Brain Training for Adults (DS) - 22,866 / 2,736,150
10. English Training (DS) - 17,465 / 1,401,669

Yeah fellas, you read that right; every single damn game is for the Nintendo DS. Where does the PSP go from here, I don't know. But I'll stress it again, Sony absolutely has to get some software out that will compete with what Nintendo is putting out an an alarmingly regular rate.

Japanese software sales chart, Aug. 14-20: Yes, it's Mario again

Japanese software sales chart, Aug. 14-20: Yes, it's Mario againI'm sure by now Mario is haunting Kaz Hirai's dreams. It seems like the plummer just won't give up that top spot, but more importantly, the Nintendo DS once again had seven games in the top 10. And that's not even counting another of which is a Gameboy Advance title.

1. New Super Mario Bros. (DS) - 103,774 / 2,835,708
2. Tamagotchi no Puchi Puchi Omisetchi Gohiikini (DS) - 65,554 / 400,429
3. Shaberu! DS Oryouri Nabi (Cooking Navi) (DS) - 55,759 / 346,719
4. Brain Age 2 - Nintendo (DS) - 45,978 / 3,031,411
5. Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS) - 41,813 / 3,119,108
6. Daito Giken Pachislot Hihouden (PS2)- Daito Giken - 39,070 /*NEW*
7. Rythm Tengoku (GBA) - 29,911 / 88,089
8. Tetris DS - Nintendo (DS) - 26,791 / 781,110
9. SD Gundam G Generation Portable (PSP) - 25,716 / 217,943
10. Brain Training for Adults (DS) - 25,139 / 2,713,284

I guess the one good thing for us PSP fanboys is at least Gundam is holding down that ninth spot, right? But in its third week of release, it barely beat out Brain Training, which has been out for 67 weeks.
