Stuck on 3.11 firmware? Get unstuck

For homebrew enthusiasts with TA-082 or newer motherboards, who have a patched idstorage key and cannot upgrade their 3.11 firmware to 3.50 to use the 3.50 downgrader, and don't have access to Pandora's Battery, team N00bz has a solution for your extremely specific problem.

Their new 3.11 downgrader will let you go down to firmware 1.50, at which point you could then do lots of homebrew goodness. You will need a copy of Lumines to pull off the downgrade. Detailed instructions can be found here. As usual, we must warn you that there is a risk of bricking your PSP, so use at your own risk.

Hours later, 3.11 is decrypted

Firmware 3.11 was released unceremoniously, and the homebrew community has already decrypted it. Like last time, this decryption will most likely lead to another version of Dark_Alex's open-edition firmware, which combines the functionality of Sony's official firmware releases with the ability to run homebrew.

I can't say that I'm surprised. Of course, considering how 3.11 was created to simply patch a single game, this decryption was probably a lot easier than it should've been.

Firmware 3.11 now available on Network Update

Another we told you so moment. Another firmware upgrade has been made available for your PSP, but don't expect to get much out of it. This will only fix bugs found in R-TYPES, a PSone game downloadable only in Japan. The official word from Sony goes as follows: "Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded."

Yay? Download it via Network Update.

[Thanks, Rueben!]

New firmware coming in less than a week

Apparently, the PSone download title, R-TYPES, has some issues, freezing on the PSP. Sony's official Japanese website acknowledges this issue and Sony plans on releasing a new firmware to fix this issue.

While this won't affect Americans at all, Sony will most likely release a new firmware worldwide. This isn't the first time Sony has released an upgrade for game-specific problems. In fact, 3.01 and 3.02 were both released within days of 3.00's release in order to fix issues in Japan-only games. For those of you that need to always be on the latest firmware, expect this update to hit PSPs before February 9th.
