And it's about time too. Sony has revealed today, during a Strategy Meeting in Tokyo, that the PSP will finally be getting direct access to the PSN Store. That means no more having to deal with cables, memory cards or PCs. Good news for Mac lovers. It also means that you'll be able to download content from any WiFi hotspot. Pretty tasty.
There's no real release date, other than "this fiscal year," which could mean anything up to next April. The service was announced at GDC earlier this year, but no timeframe was announced. There's a chance we'll be hearing more about this at E3 next month, so stay tuned for that.

Oh really, the PC store was a step towards this, and that was something the delivered on pretty quickly after they announced they would be doing it. I expect it to be a 5.0 sort of release. With a psp accessible store. The only thing that keeps the psp from being the perfect digital device is the lack of a harddrive or onboard flash storage. The I believe will the biggest feature of perhaps the next system (whether it be a redesign or the psp2).

This would be great news - if Sony ever put anything worth downloading onto the bl***y site. Sony (SCEE/SCEA) should start giving us that back catalogue of PS1 games we are all after and then I'll be happy with direct access.

Did you just censor 'bloody'?

Yes... But thinking about it, it's not that bad. I tend to censor anything like that in case someone's offended.

Everything Sony says is coming for the PSP or PS3 is "coming soon". They've said the camera, GPS and keyboard are "coming soon" for the last two years. I'm not holding my breath on this one either.

Yay, now I'll be able to log onto the PSN Store and download the ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that Sony bothers posting there.
The sheer difference between the JPN and US PSN Stores is unbefreakinlievable.

Call this strange but wouldn't direct access from the PSP to the PSN Store be the FIRST thing you'd think of?

I don't know, if it takes ~time I'm okay since I won't have to sit in traffic and dispose of shrink wrap.

I suppose this might mean something to mac users, but it doesn't mean much to me. There's a lot of games on PS1 I'd love to have portable, but they're not in the US store. I'm not talking obscure stuff either, I'm talking first party.
