There are some Western third party companies out there that haven't completely given up on the PSP. Then again, technically, publisher 1C Company is Eastern European -- not quite west enough. We kid, we kid. The publisher is set to bring
IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey to the PSP (developed by Dynamicsystems) and to the PS3 (Gaijin Entertainment). The game is a flight sim set in vintage WWII times.
The game lets players become a pilot fighting in five major historical aerial battles: Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Berlin, Sicily and Korsun. An exact release date was not stated, but the game is currently slated for a 2008-2009 release window.

If it can live up to the quality of Ace Combat X on the PSP, then it will rock. PSP definitely needs more good flight games.
