I bought my PSP on launch day, but I didn't take any pictures. I drove to Toys 'R' Us during my lunch break, not knowing if I'd be able to get one... there was no line, and they had plenty in stock.
I heard that the Target just down the block from the Toys 'R' Us, on the other hand, was completely sold out of their PSP stock on launch day.

Yeah, I worked at Target at the time. We received about 100 PSPs. We had a whole plan worked out where we would be there at 5 am, hand out tickets to people standing in line and they would be able to pick one up without a fight. Well, the store opened and we had 2 people there. I think we sold 10 or 15 all day. Pretty disappointing....

I bought mine on launch day, but didn't wait in line. I actually called a bunch of places from work and looked around during lunch but everyone was sold out. After work I stopped by Circuit City and roamed around a bit, looked at music and games. I started walking out and one of the sales associates says "can I help you with anything?" and I said "nope, not unless you happen to be hiding any PSP's." Then he said "actually, I think we have some in the back. Just haven't put them out yet." So I snagged one plus a couple games (Twisted Metal and Untold Legends, I think).

I suppose I should mention that there were only like 6 people waiting for there PSP with me at Wal-Mart :D, we didn't even have a line, basically people standing in a circle near the display for 10 minutes chatting.

No. And as much as I like the PSP now I would never have got one before the Slim model, and before Sony realised the dead pixel problem. There were 4 PSP owners on my course and each one had at least 2 dead pixels (one chap had 9).
That and IMO there wasn't a truly worthwhile game for a long time, and no CFW till early last year.

When PSP was first released I went to my local Wal-Mart got the last one of 3, and bought three games, all this after work. Got home, told my wife and kids to leave me be with my new friend. Powered up and and I had a ton a dead pixels! So, back to store go an one from a Wal-Mart closer to me, this one DIDN'T work, so back to same Wal-Mart, and then tested in store, then left to ENJOY my nice new SHINNY PSP.
I had that PSP until 2007 when PSP Slim was released.
There's my boring story.

I wasn't even considering a PSP until a day before launch. I saw a bit of the Wipeout Pure demo when I was in Best Buy for some other reason and I was sold. I strolled back into my local Best Buy on the next day about three hours after they opened and got a PSP, Hot Shots Golf, Ridge Racer, and of course I got Wipeout Pure as well.
No pictures though.

I got mine @ a local EB store. The good thing was, I didn't pay for it, the PSP launch day was on my birthday so my girlfriend bought it for me. :) Cheers. Unfortunately, she said I had to buy my own games but at least it came with Spiderman movie included. I didn't get any games that day because none of the game was interesting to me. I just want to play with a new toy.

I got mine at 8AM at Best Buy (no midnight launches in my area) and took some shots (what the heck possessed me? never did that before). Sent them to Andrew.
Now? My firmware is up to date, I am using Skype to phone home from my PSP since I started a new job out of state and my wife and kids are still at home for a few weeks, and when I got the PSP-2000 I just couldn't get rid of my beloved original ... so now I can more easily shuffle between two games!

I was at my local Walmart at launch with my brother. He got one that night I didnt. I decide to wait and see what it looked and felt like when he open his. Need less to say I got my arse up the next morning and went to get my own. I bought Need for Speed Underground Rivals with it.
