In just a few weeks, the PSP will celebrate its third anniversary. Quite amazing to think that our beloved handheld has been around for so long already, isn't it? We want to find the early adopters out there: the people that waited in line for the system. We want to see your launch day photos, read about your launch day experiences, and find out more about the three year journey you've had with your handhelds.

I was patiently sitting at Home waiting for the UPS delivery truck to pull into my driveway. At around 2pm he did! And I got my glorious PSP along with NFL Street 2 Unleashed, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR and Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade.

Alas, I have only recently become one of the PSP faithful. However, it didn't take long for me to get hooked, and now I'm playing on the way to and from work every day, and play far more than I do on the PS3 (not for lack of games, just for lack of time and GF approval factor).

i got mine in the begining of May of launch year. i had wanted one at launch but $250 for a handheld was a little out of my price range at that time. but one day i just walked in the Gamestop and saw and used one for $200. the kid apparently got it as a gift and only played it once, didnt like it and traded it in (though that's what they always say lol). well one mans trash is another man's treasure, so i bought the PSP, Ape Escape, and Kill Bill Vol.1.
me and my PSP have had some good times together and she is holding up strong. only thing is the Start button is retarded now and i get a little ghost-stick from time to time. i may pick up the slim this summer though.

I bought on launch, but there isn't much of a story to tell. I preordered about a week and a half before launch and was told I was second on the waiting list. I figured everyone would buy theirs on launch, so I figured I'd have to wait till second shipment. But to my surprise, I got a call around 6:30 that night saying they'd had a few cancellations and that I could come pick mine up. Needless to say, I did. Got Untold Legends and DarkStalker to go along with it. And I've been happy with it since.
Tho I'm thinking about replacing my launch unit with a 2000 series soon. Then pumping up my 1000 with some custom firmware and homebrew apps... If I can save up enough money that is....

Had mine pre-ordered at gamestop. Went in to pick it up at 8am that morning. Don't remember what game I bought at launch though.....Oh well, still have it with battle scars from 3 years of constant use. Although it wasn't always for gaming, I put this baby through it's paces using every possible function on it to prove to the Missus that it was worth $300. Once I had a memory card big enough for movies (pspvideo9 -i luv thee) and didn't have to pay double for dvds and umds for my kids movies, it's been the best investment we've made.......Now if I can just talk her into letting me buy a slim.....Any Suggestions???

i love getting the full potential out of all of my devices as well. i use my PSP primarily as an MP3 player now (everyday at college) with a 4GB memory stick. i also use it to carry episodes of Heroes to watch in between classes. the web browser lets me leave my laptop at home since im only really going to be browsing the mobile versions of Joystiq and ESPN and such. and Beats is also a great game to pick up and play. im a graphic design student, so i carry my files to and from and put exported pictures of my work on it. and when im home, i use the remote play function to watch videos and download stuff from the PSP store while on the john (too much info?).
even though some people write it off for its jack of all trades approach but i love it more with every new feature.

Midnight release at Wal-Mart for me :) All I got was Untold Legends, but it was a pretty good game... for awhile, at least.
Thanks to the little movie/music disc I found and fell in love with Kasabian, though (also learned about and began to anticipate Kung Fu Hustle)!
Never really cared for the Spiderman movies, but FREE is FREE ('FREE' is always capitalized).
Thanks to CFW and being a yar-har pirate, I love my PSP even moar now :D

That is not what CFW is for. Pirating UMDs hurts the people who use their CFW PSPs for homebrew and hurts Sony as well.
Go away you stupid pirate.

i was not getting a psp at launch, but i got a launch system. i got the free spiderman disc@! and then it screwed up after a year and a half...then i fixed it myself(yay me!) and now i'm using it. but wether or not i want the redesighned psp...hmm, not sure. i remember before i got it, i was saving up, my brother got a DS earlier, and i was like , "you know what, i'll have a psp, which is cooler" and so far i think i'm right. but oh my gosh how i treated the psp at the begining, i seriously treated it like a piece of heaven. and i got one of the little cut out psp's before i got one, and i kept it everywhere with me. and its really what got me into hardcore gaming (sorry ps2, i played jak and daxter+kingdom hearts on you, wasn't too hardcore).

Honestly, I imported my PSP and bought it January 2005 at Chinatown, NYC. However, on March 24th, 2005 while people were waiting on lines to get it, I found myself in China Town again, mainly because the US release for the PSP was also the Japanese release for a little game called Bleach: Heat the Soul. Ironically, I sprained my ankle while half way down Canal St. However, I continued on to the shop and picked up Bleach. Then, I turned around and walked, the long agonizing trip back to the subway to get home. Although I sprained my ankle, I didn't let it stop me from getting what I wanted. Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures from that date but it certainly was a day I could never forget. And even when I look back at it, even though it was painful, it was well worth it. A few weeks later, I then picked up a US PSP bundle with Spiderman 2 as well. (One for homebrew and one for official games :-).
It's now three years from that point. Since then, I have enjoyed Dynasty Warriors, Ridge Racer, Monster Hunter, Megaman Maverick Hunter X, Bleach: Heat the Soul IV, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, Lumines, Warhammer 40K: Squad Commander, Kingdom of Paradise, Untold Legends: The Warriors Code, Rengoku (Yes, I actually liked that game), Loco Roco, Killzone Liberation, Guilty Gear Judgement, Bounty Hounds, Tales of Eternia and many others. Currently, I am looking forward to 2008 and picking up Patapon and the Limited Edition God of War: Chains of Olympus PSP when it is released in May. SO hear is to another three years of quality gaming. And to all of those haters who still think the PSP is lacking in the games department, get your head out of the box and try playing some of the games rather than complaining about them all of the time. You may actually like what you play.

My beloved hand held had already been out for a year when I purchased mine. I had admired the PSP since Sony first released the specs. Up to when I got the Mighty PSP to think I held the GBA in such high regards, for shame! I have enjoyed my phat PSP for just over 2 years on almost a daily bases. I am disabled and I am home most all of the time, I have a high end PC and consoles ranging from the Heavy Sixer to the 360, hand helds that range from Merlin to of course the PSP. All Hail the PSP, may we look back in 20 years and remember the PSP that started it all and revel in hopefully many versions to come!!
