I love this demo, and I can't wait to get on to playing the entire game! This really is one the best simple silly games I have ever played.

I only got to play the demo for about 30 minutes and I was really impressed. It took me like 10 seconds to fully understand how the beat works and I was on my way across the world.
Once I figure out that a team of only spear-patapon don't work against melee enemies, then I'll really! enjoy it. =)

Yeah, how do you make melee Patapons? Can't seem to figure that out.

Go to the ressurrection shrine. As soon as it becomes available you can make spear and axe patapons. That's what the hunting mission is about, gathering meat to make new patapons.

Basically you learn beats to play on your drums which direct the patapons to do certain things.
For example:
pata pata pata pon (square, square, square, circle)
*makes your army move forward
pon pon pata pon (circle, circle, square, circle)
*makes your army attack
You just have to play the beat that's appropriate and play it with proper rhythm.

I'd been trying to land the demo for weeks until yesterday, when my girlfriend needed me to accompany her to a doctor's appointment uptown. After we finished, I found a nearby Gamestop that had the Patapon demo. When I told them it would be a long bus ride to pick up my copy later, they threw in a demo of God of War: Chains of Olympus for free! People who can't find UMD demos of this game should check stores outside their neighborhood.
The demo is brilliant, by the way -- and I say that as a studio
musician who hates the music in most rhythm-oriented games. The game's an instant classic, and, to a lesser extent, so is Beats. If Traxxpad had been better (it needs Undo, MIDI file export and flexible quantization), then the PSP would become every musician's choice in game consoles.

My Gamestop (San Diego) got the demo discs in on Monday. I made the same mistake with my spear dudes...they got massacred by the melee enemies. Such a cool game...maybe the coolest idea for a game, ever.
