So you finished Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics (how did you manage that?!). And now you want something more. Yggdra Union is hitting Japan very soon, and will offer PSP fans yet another opportunity at tactical RPG action. This remake of the GBA original features brand new cutscenes and widescreen presentation. It goes to show that good 2D will always look good.

not to rag on Andrew Yoon's parade, but Jeanne D'Arc was *ALSO a great tactical RPG in the same category as Disgaea and FF Tactics.
this new game is also looking to be a solid addition as well.
the PSP is *GREAT with this genre, it seems.

yeah, i thought that was a pretty funny oversight. jeanne d'arc is the best SRPG i've played since advance wars on the GBA.

wow, the SRPG genre is really going through a renaissance as of late, especially on portable systems. nearly half of my DS collection is made up of SRPGs, and my next two planned PSP purchases are FFT and disgaea. this is a great time to be a fan of the genre. now if only square-enix would give us an all new front mission for the PSP (or even a port of FM5), i'd be in turn-based tactics heaven!

i think Andrew left out jeanne d'arc because it is not quite as long as the two games mentioned...he's not making a list of great games in the genre...you can't argue bout that, dont you.

This game is very good, one of the best TRPG I played for a while. It is difficult for this kind of games (which are often quite easy) as you don't gain your life ("morale" in the game if my memory is ok) very often and you have to pass through several battles before being allowed to heal your characters and to save! So it can be frustrating to have to play again 3 or 4 battles after dying.
But the mechanics are good and original. Each character can team up with others depending a shape (cross, T, L…). The other characters must be in the adjacent squares and match the particular shape of the attacking character in order to attack with him or to defend with him.

I for one hope Atlus brings Ogre Battle to the PSP. Plus if it was remade that would be cool too.

Yggdra Union was a great game for the GBA, I fully intend to get the PSP version.
Joe: The developer of the Ogre Battle games (Quest) is now a part of Square Enix so you'd have to ask Square Enix if any games of the series have a chance of being ported.

Looks like Advance Wars, indeed... which is a great thing. And at least they scaled sprites the right way this time (Ahem... Riviera...)
Looking forward to a US release!
