Our friend at PSP GadgetZ has just uploaded a new video, highlighting all the features of the Japanese version of firmware 3.80. While the rest of the world must be satisfied with internet radio (which we are), the Japanese get the very cool ability to record shows from their 1seg tuner. Yes, the PSP is a DVR machine in Japan, and we're incredibly jealous.

I just recorded an hour long TV show off EyeTV here. It's 1.1gb for MPEG2 720*576 video 50fps TV. Surely the PSP will either record in the devices native resolution to save space or are we looking at an estimated max of 1 hour for 1gb? I'm not keen on the sound of either :(
I'd love to know more details about this.

1seg is limited to a maximum resolution of 320x240 pixels and a maximum data rate of 416 kbit/s for the whole stream including audio, video and data like EPG information, as it's a broadcast signal specifically designed for mobile devices like cell phones, PDA and PMP.

I don't watch much TV either, but I'd probably use it to record the Simpsons so I can watch them whenever I get a free moment, like on lunch break, on the john, the subway, or something. It sure would be nice to have the option, even if I wouldn't use it much!
Still waiting for the US GPS and camera to hit! Damn SCEA, get on that!

Not totally on topic, but...I need to vent.
I was seriously disappointed when I set up my two radios using the new firmware released yesterday.
It essentially starts up the browser and takes you to a web radio set up specifically for PSP. It's takes for ever to load the graphics, and I still can't figure out how to use the stupid thing efficiently. Seriously, I was hoping for something much more useful, where I could browse station categories and pick stations from a list and save my favorites. I still can't tell what those three circles are in the middle of the screen, other than the signal is clearer when they all three a colored. The interface is not great, the functionality is mediocre, and the install process is not really smooth. I was hoping for something more more integrated to the xmb, and faster and practical.
I'm all for Sony, but they don't focus enough on implementation. It gives me the same feeling of lameness as when I go to the Playstation Store on the PS3. It's just a cheap feeling, unresponsive web page.
Implementation, SONY!! It counts!

Not one to read the manual, I found I was forced to for the Internet Radio stations. There's a [?] button at the very bottom of the page. There's the first problem.
There's a lot "below the fold". Scroll down like you would on a normal webpage, and you'll find all the station categories to choose from (which explains why I could only get 80's stations for the first ten minutes playing with the radio), and at the very bottom, some more buttons and the Help icon.
Turn off all the buttons at the very bottom. They add irritating sound effects when changing stations (pitch change, morse code???), and eat up valuable processor.

I just installed the internet radio...it looks like an ordinary web page. It's not even optimized for the psp! And one of the selections is turkish music? Turkish? Where is Kazakstan music? Hahahaha this is sooo lame... hope for version 2
