The Japanese sure do love
Monster Hunter. The PSP-exclusive
Monster Hunter Portable 2nd has sold through an impressive
1.5 million copies, becoming the first PSP title to reach such an impressive sales figure. Ten months after its release, it still stands strong on sales charts, which undoubtedly has Capcom seeing tons of green. Will the upcoming
G expansion fare just as well? Now, we're intrigued to see how the Wii-exclusive
Monster Hunter III will fare.

Yeah, it's a decent enough game, but the first PSP game to reach a million and a half copies? It ain't anywhere near that good.

It sold over a million copies in Japan because it's a hell of an amazing game. They have good taste. I know a game reviewer who DOESN'T like the game but he'll play Hannah Montana on his DS. That says a lot about Monster Hunter haters. Their opinions are worth less than nil.

It sells 1.5 million copies, continues to sell well even now, and the first thing Capcom thinks is... hey let's take this franchise away from the Sony customers who have made it such a success for us... Unbelievable.

how will monster hunter 3 fare on the wii in japan?! very well i might say. it will no doubt move (more) wii's thus further pushing sony into the ground while giving the wii MORE sales. the remaining japanese that do not have a wii, will now be obligated to buy one to get their mh fix. way to go capcom have you completely sold sony out?? to me your biggest flub was whoreing resident evil around. their is no loyalty anymore. its funny that the psp a (failing) platform has managed such sale figures for capcom and the first chance they get they move to the cash cow.

I would never call a product with 20+ million install base a "failing system".
I am sure more Honda/Nissan are being sold than BMW/Benz Mercedes, but no one would ever call the latter a failure in any way or form.
People nowadays has no commonsense at all.

I agree with you. I doubt many of the Wii owners have a PSP so the true Monster Hunter fans that played the series on the PS2 and now the PSP will probably be ticked off to find out that they have to switch to Nintendo to play the next installment in the series.
I never played this game so I don't really care about this. Besides, I got too many other titles to buy for PS3.

i'm not so sure about that. After seeing the sales of SM:G and LoZ:TP in japan, i'm starting to think that all japanese wii owners want is uber casual games. Monster hunter is anything but casual.

I played Monster Hunter 1 on the PS2 and quite enjoyed it. Loved the way you got new weapons and armour - by killing things and carving up their dead bodies for scales and whatnot. The online play was fun too, if somewhat limited (8 people per 'town' max., only 4 of those being able to party and go on a quest).
Hopefully 3 comes out in Europe, because 2 didn't :(

yea ps kun. that's what i was getting at they say it is a failing system because they compare it to the nintendo ds. i have had my psp since launch i was their when the psp was an enigma. no one quite knew what it could do. i was their when everyone shyted on it and jumped on the ds bandwagon. it is hardly a failure. it just rubs me the wrong way after sony has done so much for capcom they act like moving mh3 to wii is no big deal. do you know the impact that would have made for the ps3 base? sony has recieved slap after slap in the face from previous exclusives jumping ship to multi platform.
it saddens me.

I realize companies generally don't, but Capcom has been pretty bad towards Sony. Despite all the sales. Particular the PSP - you'd think they'd roll out more PSP games using their big name properties - Resident Evil and DMC for instance. But nope. I don't think they plan any more PSP games period, except for Monster Hunter stuff.

Monster Hunter is, for lack of a better word, a "macho" video game. It's like the old video game "Defender", hard as heck to play, but in sort of a flashy way.
I dunno how it will work on the Wii, because I think part of what makes it work on the PSP is the portability of it. People bring out MH and play it with others in person to show how good they are. With a Wii, you don't have bragging rights like that.

You know what...you have some very, very, valid points...seriously... you thought this over.
Except for the one par t where you say things like it doesnt have any ames NOW. You must be joking...I could go through the whole lis of games that are damn good, in fact better than Nintendos(Check Metacritic), but I'm just to lazy.
Also about that Tomb Raider thing..here's the situation with that: People will by it if a) They are not you
b) They just so happenn not to have a ps2
c) Just want the game on THE GO.
Also, the Game cube did 20 million in its whole LIFE. ITS WHOLE GODDAMN LIFE....w-what? Dont even bring that up here!!enough said..
You mention 2 years ago when the PSP only survived on its name...true..but how? You tell me how an overpriced handeheld, where at the time, it costed more than the ps2(a kick ass console) and still survived.
Also lately the Psp has been doing something that has never been done before in terms of rivaling handhelds...it ACTUALLY SURPASSED THE NINTENDO HANDEHELD in sales MORE THAN ONCE. (had to put that one in caps).
You cant ignore that the psp is making ripples all over...to say it cant hold a candle to the DS...no way. But you have some good ass points though for sure.
BTW Elder Scrolls is cancelled...But cant wait to pickup PuLSe.

Are you a freaking retard man ? The PSP is closing in with 30 million in less than 3 years worldwide ... 60 million plus is already guaranteed at this point . And what about the upcoming games like Kingdom Hearts BBS , God of War CoO , Wipeout Pulse etc.
The PSP is the most successful non Nintendo portable ever created , and it will sell probably as much as the most successful Nintendo home console , the SNES .
Its a success , not as full blown , as Sony hoped , but one strong contender indeed . Oh , and what hype are you talking about ... yes there where adverts , true , but dont forget , Nintendo spent ~ 40million $ just to advertise the Wii this year only ... so please , shut the fuck up , and get to any other idiot thread , wich actually tolerates your comments ...

Asdasdasd's comments are out of date because they aren't his and aren't current. They all belong to people who posted them last April on Kotaku (nice job of giving credit where it's due, bubuleh -- obviously, an unaddressed link isn't enough).
Besides, doesn't it subject pspfanboy to copyright infringement litigation when someone quotes extensive passages from another site? I don't know the editor personally, but I'd rather not see writers, editors and publishers showering more money on clumsy-tongued half-literate greedy lawyers.

the game is awesome because it's a perfect blend of simplicity and difficulty for a portable system. no dialog to sit through, no bloated stories...get your quest, go hunt and when you're done, take the bones/remains and build new weapons/upgrades. it's super satisfying because it's all gameplay and all customization. again, for portables, being on a train or a flight, less story is better. my favorite on the PSP.
