You asked for it ... and now you got it! The PSP Extended Life Battery Kit will work on both the old and new PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 models. This 2200mAh battery will offer 20% more battery life on the older models, and 80% more life on the new slim line. This battery will bulge out slightly on the slimmer PSP systems, so new battery covers will be included. However, those with Star Wars Ceramic White systems are out of luck: doesn't appear a new battery cover is being made for that particular model.
Update: The peripheral is releasing in mid-December for a MSRP of $44.99. We'll have a hands-on in the coming weeks.

Just lovely. I bought my psp slim to get an extended battery that will stick out, thus making my slim somewhat chubby. I'll pass.

What do you expect? The capacity of the battery dictates its size. Lithium cells, even Li-polys, need to be a certain volumetric shape to store X milliamp hours (mAh).
If you make the PSP thinner, the 2200mAh battery will stick out. Period. Being a baby and pouting over it won't change the current state of technology.
My PSP-2000 gets arond 5 hours to a charge right now and my 2200mAh-equipped PSP-1000 got around 7-8 hours, so I'm not sure how I'll get a full 80% more runtime, but any improvement will be good. I'll wait until they release a white battery door (what really IS stupid is that they didn't make them for the three current USA colors).

If only Sony released this battery kit with the white cover. It doesn't make any sense to have silver & black but not white.

I already have the "gold" extended battery itself, bought it more than a year ago for my original psp. I would like to use it on my slim. Does anyone know, if they are going to sell the battery covers separately?

$44.95 for a battery?? are you kidding me? I hope you guys don't run out and buy this battery for that ridiculous price. The sony execs need to learn when enough is enough when it comes to robbing people of their money. This battery should be no more than 20 bucks max.

Finally. Does anyone know if Sony's released these in Japan for the different colored PSPs? I'm close to getting a blue PSP but I'd like to get the official battery cover that accomadates the larger battery.

This is old news; I bought this battery last year when I got my PSP for Christmas! Sony calls it the "Stamina" battery, and it is 3.6v and 2200mAh...

Good job, but one thing, many people may throw away their fat batter (1800 mAh), for buy a new one need more than $20. So i like to share what i found.
I have saw a new type of psp 2000 cover for the fat battery (1800 mAh) somewhere,
The cover for PSP 2000 thick battery is designed and developed for PSP 2000 console and can be compatible with PSP 1800mAh battery, which can effectively extend PSP 2000 console using time and is convenient for the players who could not buy new batteries. After inserted PSP battery into PSP 2000 covering the battery cover, can effectively prevent the battery off, Simple but practical.
