Here's a juicy rumor to ponder. Gamelabo is reporting that Square Enix is working on a PSP version of Dragon Quest IX. The RPG is currently a DS exclusive, but according to this short snippet, encouraging sales of the PSP have made Square Enix consider multi-platform development. This is far from confirmed, but if this comes to fruition, it'll certainly be a huge win for PSP owners.
Update: It appears that Gamelabo has a very poor track record. Don't get your hopes up. At all. It's something we're going to keep in mind next time the rumor mill starts turning.

I did not intend to buy this title, as my DS seems to be a means for me to play Final Fantasy games only (My library will soon consist of FFIII and FFXII:RW). However, if they were to go multiplatform, I would definitely buy it for the PSP.
Sometimes Square Enix needs a swift kick in the ass though. "encouraging sales of the PSP have made Square Enix consider multi-platform development" Gee, I wonder if that had anything to do with the fact that they finally got around to releasing FFVII.

I'll still buy the DS version. I prefer to use my PSP for action games.

Oh god, please. I want DQIX. But not enough to buy another piece of hardware for it (the 360 is still waiting in the Christmas wings).

@pixelator: What wavering market? Anyway, I don't buy games based on market trends. I buy the version which is most convenient/fun. For example, I will buy the PSP version of Harvey Birdman instead of the Wii, because I think that type of game lends itself better to gaming on the go.

Note to Square-Enix (who surely doesn't read this blog) : I, a chronic used game buyer, will buy Dragon Quest Brand New, day one, if released on the PSP. (Yes I own a DS, but I would not do the same for a DS version)

Yay for rumors, but this worries me since the DS and PSP are so different, anything made for both isn't going to be a good as it would exclusive. I'd rather have a spin-off (or Dragon Question X) that could take advantage of the graphics and internet in the PSP. Let IX use the DS' touch screen.

@psfan: What reviews? The vast majority of FF:T reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. I find it a bit harder to get in to than Jeanne D'Arc and thus I'm playing more of the latter right now, but after the initial dry curve there's apparently a huge amount of depth. Its metacritic score is a stratospheric 88 (putting it in the top 5 all time). IGN gave it a 9.0. Get that or Jeanne, Battlefront (flawed but highly playable and a good time waster), Brave Story or Monster Hunter 2.
@ken: Agreed - it's a bit scary for the PSP right now, as several big developers seem to be getting more wary of the low attachment rate most titles have had. But still, not unlike the later GBA market, if you break into the top 10 or so, you should be able to sell some units. I guess Squeenix has a bit more faith in DQ now that they see the sales of FFVII. Hopefully it'll be an original title.
@exolstic: Yeah, way to support the wavering market.

I really hope this is true. Becuase I still do not like using the stylus for games. So if DQIX also comes out on the PSP I would prefer this version.
Plus this would even help sell more PSPs so that would be great news.

Rumors are fine and all, but that font drives me *crazy*.
The Gamelabo rumors are more like things that are dreamed up from random information than actual rumors.
ie. "Because something is delayed for one console, right around the same time some other popular game is released... It must be because they`re going to copy some part of the other game! We got this info from a friend of a friend of someone who delivered a pizza to one of the developers!"
It`s all about as believable as any of the other million blog conspiracy theories you can find at any moment.
"We heard this from a delivery guy at some big company"... Yes, what a wonderful and reliable source. If this were the incredibly secret development that they`re saying it is, I highly doubt that a delivery guy (who delivers to the main desk in general) is going to have this info.
While it would be nice if they made something for the PSP, I`m not going to waste a drop of hope on this rumor.

It does piss me off though with all of these DS exclusive RPGs. FFT2, the new tales series game, DQ9 and plenty of others.
