Manhunt 2 gets M rating, releases Halloween

After receiving the much-feared AO rating from the ESRB, Take-Two Interactive had no choice but to delay Rockstar's Manhunt 2 and edit some of its more questionable moments. It looks like whatever they did, the ESRB is now satisfied enough to give the game a toned down, but still restrictive M rating. With an M rating, the game can now be sold in retail stores -- something the AO rating didn't allow.

"Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we're glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience," said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. "We love the horror genre. Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it."

With an M rating secured, Mahunt 2 will ship to retailers this Halloween, October 31st.

I think it's stupid that they had to edit the game to get and M rating. M rating is for 17+. Why don't they just make the M rating 18+, which are adults legally, and get rid of the AO rating alltogether. I'm sure they won't because that makes too much sense and puts too much responsibility on the consumer.

Hopefully whatever edits were made can be undone with a code, kinda like the blood codes for Mortal Kombat back in the day.

If that was possible and the ESRB found out about it, the game would instantly get the AO rating again and get pulled off the shelves, a la GTA: San_Andreas.

Boo, I say. I was actually very interested in this game before the whole AO rating thing. Now, I don't know if it *was* a publicity stunt, but, surely, I'm not picking this up now. I was interested before, and I feel like I'm getting cheated now. Screw you, Rockstar.
