Here's another analyst story for you to chew on.
Screen Digest is predicting that Sony will sell 67 million PSP systems by 2011. Certainly, that's an impressive figure. It's dwarfed by DS's predicted sales of 112 million, but certainly 67 million consoles is nothing to scoff at. In fact, if Sony's able to sell as many systems as predicted, it will have sold more systems in its lifetime than the industry-defining NES (62 million), SNES, N64, Genesis, Xbox, Gamecube, Dreamcast and Saturn. Certainly, that's a remarkable achievement for Sony's first entry into the handheld arena.

Depending of howwell Sony will be able to keep up the PSP , thge numbers could be anywhere between 50-70 millions . But this number is a pretty safe bet :)

I would assume this would include a psp 2 by then? because if it were just the current psp, it would be way outdated by then.

that's a pretty impressive number. especially in a market monopolized by Nintendo for DECADES.
when was the last time another handheld did anything?

Those numbers indicate a shift in the sales trends - the DS is currently outselling the PSP more than 2:1 on a monthly basis, and has more than 2x the worldwide sales. The article states as much, yet they instead draw a two point line and extrapolate out. It makes no sense, as it doesn't recognize the dynamic reality of the market.
That said, I hope it comes to pass - because it will have positioned an excellent dynamic market *full* of competition in which gamers like us truly win!

It might reach that number only if it continues to sell at the same rate.
The same logic can be applied to any video game console. The rate of sales will eventually decrease when the new consoles come out.

Well, if you look at the May numbers, the PSP did pretty well in terms of sales - looks like the good games and price cut might be starting to help out!
