BBC News has an exclusive video of PSP's upcoming VoIP functionality. In a deal made with BT, PSP users will be able to make free video calls to other PSP owners, and PC users equipped with the appropriate software. The service will initially only work at home and at BT hotspots, but can be expanded in the future.
In the video above, you can see BT's Steve Andrews speaking on the potential of the platform: "What we've done is allow users to talk, see each other, and send messages to each other on something they take for granted, which is a wonderful device that's called the PSP."

@ #1: It was under the camera icon because all he was doing was looking at a photo. He demonstrated nothing whatsoever. He talked about the feature, but all he had on the screen was an image.
The video really isn't that long, could someone at PSP Fanboy not have checked it out before claiming that it was a demonstration.

It just showed of the camera as a video player, if they have software and network to allow psp user to VoIP then this is a really cool. Hope it heads to others areas. When is the camera coming out in the US it's out in Europe and Japan time for a US release.

This is an amazing advancement aimed towards eager psp fans :)the possabilities are endless, and I think that as this software advances it will broaden to link with ps3 owners as well with their integraded eyetoys. I think that many people(myself included) will be excited for this.

@ #3 & #5: You guys are the drunk/blind ones. Either that or you are incredibly misinformed. If you had any knowledge regarding the PSP camera, you'd know that all he showed is what you currently can do with the PSP with camera attachment. I can do exactly what he showed on the PSP sitting right in front of me. Just because you could see his lips move, doesn't mean he was showing off their VoIP software. The picture I was referring to was the interface he had on his screen at about 0.34 into the video. That was just a picture.Basically, this video showed absolutely nothing you can't already do with a PSP and camera. I don't even see why I need to explain myself to a bunch of misinformed idiots.

If SONY releases VoIP application that works on some obscure BT network that nobody outside of the UK cares about - but later also releases Skype for PSP - great. More power to BT. Perhaps they will sell something to some customers in the UK in the process. Bt if BT will be the ONLY PSP VoIP provider in the world with no Skype release - thaen it would be yet another inexplicably stupid move by SONY. As I write this - thre are 8 million users logged on to Skype world wide. No other VoIP provider in the world comes even close - with or without video capability. Come on SONY - don't screw this one up.
