[Update: IGN has translated much of the information. "R-Type Tactics looks like a traditional shooting game, right down to the side-scrolling perspective, only instead of freely moving about and blasting enemy ships, you take turns with the enemy, making careful movements over a grid." Because Final was meant to be the last R-Type game, this strategic twist is meant to bring something "new" to the table. Do you approve?]

Looks like a hex based main map to me... Maybe some Master of Orion style TB or GalCiv style RT combat. Can't wait to hear more on this one.

R-Type tactics huh? That's weird. I can't picture a R-Type game without insanely difficult action... but a space themed SRPG sounds sweet...

It is a new concept, and wouldn't hurt. So for now, I approve. We need more furturistic/space-themed games.

Could it be that they're somehow fleshing out the vs mode from Rtype Final as the combat mechanic?
Or maybe it's all Rtype vs Bydo, and all of the bydo are boss units, so it'd be like a boss attack frenzy rooted in a strategy over-game.
Either way or any other, as a shmup and strategy fan, I'm pretty excited about this. I hope they come through, and I hope it gets a US release.
