Introversion recently started looking for new developers for a mobile version of
DEFCON, according to
CVG. The original
DEFON was a cult success, heralded by many for its unique apocalyptic premise: players are engaged in a deadly endgame, where the world's superpowers are launching their nuclear weapons. Players must kill as many people as possible through strategic use of their country's nuclear cache.
The game's simplistic graphics would make it an ideal candidate for all handhelds, including cell phones, PSP and DS. Although the awkwardly-worded job ad mentions no specific platform, CVG speculates that it will most likely head to PSP. We're not exactly sure why they'd assume that, but we really hope they're right.

I don't think the DS has the power to render something like DEFCON it being a 67Mhz system. Heck the DS has a hard time running Brain Age.

I hope this game does come out on the PSP this would be one game that would be nice to play on the PSP. Plus over at Kotaku they think that if this game does come out on the PSP that this game should allow some kind of GPS service. I have to agree with them. GPS on DEFCON would be sweet. Plus throw in some online play and the game would be even better.

I'd hope it's multiplatform. I mean, the biggest thing that, in my opinion, is killing the portable games right now. I mean, think about it. Pokémon did well because you could play against anyone, and everyone who owned a GameBoy had the potential to play the game. But with the market fractured between the PSP and the DS, there is NO SUCH GAME. No game has managed to bridge the gap between the two consoles. I promise, if a game comes out that gives you multiplayer action between the two, even if the single player function isn't that great, it'll sell tons. You know why? Because the one guy who owns a PSP with a bunch of DS owning friends will buy it. Then all his DS owning friends will buy it too, and they'll enjoy their multiplayer harmoy.

That brought a tear to my eye.
